The Illinois Policy Institute is seeking an Analytics Intern. The intern will work closely with the data and operations team to run in-depth analyses, uncover actionable insights, and help stakeholders make informed decisions. This is a fast-paced environment where data is often messy and unstructured, so strong analytical skills and a solid technical toolkit are essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Extract, clean, and transform unstructured data into usable formats.
- Conduct in-depth research and analysis to answer complex policy questions.
- Create clear, compelling data visualizations that communicate findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Maintain high standards of data and code quality to ensure work is reproducible.
- Produce clear, concise reports for stakeholders and present findings in an accessible way.
- Document data sources, methods, and code thoroughly.
Qualifications
- Proficiency in at least one programming language for data analysis (Python or R).
- Experience building data visualizations in R or Python using libraries such as ggplot2, matplotlib, seaborn, or plotly.
- Experience working with messy or unstructured data.
- Ability to maintain data quality and translate technical findings into clear, concise reports.
- Experience working with APIs and web scraping tools.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Stand Together Fellowships pays participants a stipend of either $7,500 for full-time participants working approximately 32 hours per week at the partner organization, or $5,500 for part-time participants working approximately 24 hours per week at the partner organization. Attending the entirety of the online and on-site KIP programming is required for both full and part-time participants.
