AltaGas - Risk Analyst

We are growing and seeking an Analyst, Market Risk, to join our Enterprise Risk Management department. The successful candidate will bring analytical aptitude and a learning mindset to further develop their energy marketing and commodity risk management acumen while simultaneously contributing to continuous improvement of risk reporting activities and ETRM initiatives. This role will support the Senior Manager, Market Risk by ensuring compliance of commodity risk activities, performing commodity risk reporting, enhancing day-to-day operating practices, and acting as a key liaison with Front-office and Back-office personnel across the organization.

You Will:

- Leverage ETRM systems and other technologies to process pricing or transactional data and review commercial activity to ensure compliance with Commodity Risk Management governance
- Work collaboratively with various teams (commercial, operations, finance, treasury, IT, audit) on existing and prospective opportunities to uphold governance, resolve discrepancies, and provide guidance with respect to exposures and impacts on key risk measures
- Perform AltaGas’ Commodity Risk Management activities, including running routine risk reports and preparing presentation materials
- Develop and utilize reports, dashboards and visualization tools to perform analysis and reconciliation of pricing, position, exposure, P&L, and GMaR
- Perform independent validation of commercial activity outcomes and effectively communicate market risk movements and drivers to the Senior Manager, Market Risk
- Advocate for Market Risk while developing strong collaborative relationships with commercial teams,  accounting teams, and treasury
- Support reference data configuration and maintenance in the Allegro ETRM as well as system upgrades/implementations, and enhancement opportunities
- Provide cross coverage across multiple commodities and complete ad-hoc requests for pricing, commodity risk management support, and AltaGas initiatives
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and embody a culture of accountability that challenges the status quo

You Have:

- Legal authorization to work in Canada on a permanent basis
- Bachelor's degree in quantitative or business discipline such as Economics, Statistics, Finance, Accounting, or a related field
- 1 to 3 years of experience in a Front or Middle Office role; energy marketing experience with direct exposure to NGL, crude oil, or natural gas markets is an asset
- Knowledge of commodity pricing, deal valuation, deal life cycle and energy commodity markets
- Experience with market risk modeling techniques including option models, volatility measures, VaR, GMaR, back-testing, and stress scenarios
- Attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills
- Strong communication skills to explain complex concepts concisely
- Self-starter and continuous learning mindset to develop on the job and manage multiple priorities while delivering accurate work
- Familiarity with ETRM systems; experience with Allegro Horizon is a strong asset
- Advanced skills in Excel and other business applications such as Power BI and SQL
- Proficiency with programming languages is desirable
