# Job Description Summary
C&W Services is seeking a skilled and safety-focused Automation Technician to support the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimization of Building Automation Systems (BAS) and related facility control systems. This role is responsible for ensuring the reliable operation of HVAC, electrical, mechanical, and automated building systems through the installation and commissioning of control devices, low-voltage wiring, instrumentation, and networked controls. The Automation Technician plays a critical role in improving equipment performance, energy efficiency, occupant comfort, and overall facility reliability while supporting client operational objectives.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities

- Install, terminate, test, troubleshoot, and commission low-voltage control wiring, sensors, actuators, panels, and field devices associated with Building Automation Systems (BAS).
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, one-line diagrams, network architecture drawings, control sequences, and construction documents.
- Support the installation, startup, programming verification, and commissioning of HVAC control systems, including air handlers, chillers, boilers, pumps, cooling towers, VAV systems, and related equipment.
- Diagnose and repair automation, controls, communication, and integration issues involving BAS hardware and software platforms.
- Perform preventive maintenance and inspections on control systems, instrumentation, and automated building equipment.
- Verify proper operation of control networks, communication protocols, and connected devices, including BACnet, Modbus, and other industry-standard protocols.
- Assist with system upgrades, retrofits, and modernization projects to improve facility performance and energy efficiency.
- Collaborate with facility managers, maintenance teams, contractors, and engineering personnel to resolve operational issues and optimize system performance.
- Maintain accurate documentation, including as-built drawings, service reports, commissioning records, and change logs.
- Ensure all work complies with applicable local, state, and national electrical codes, safety regulations, manufacturer specifications, and C&W Services standards.
- Support emergency response activities and troubleshoot critical system failures affecting building operations.
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement related to reliability, energy conservation, occupant comfort, and equipment lifecycle management.
- Utilize computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and BAS software to document work activities and monitor system performance.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

- High school diploma or GED required; trade school certification, technical degree, or equivalent military experience preferred.
- Minimum 3 years of experience working with Building Automation Systems, HVAC controls, industrial controls, or commercial facility automation systems.
- Strong understanding of HVAC equipment operation, control sequences, and mechanical building systems.
- Experience with low-voltage electrical systems, control wiring, panel installations, and device terminations.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical diagrams, wiring schematics, control drawings, and construction documents.
- Knowledge of BAS platforms such as Siemens, Johnson Controls, Honeywell, Trane, Schneider Electric, Automated Logic, or similar systems.
- Familiarity with communication protocols including BACnet, Modbus, LonWorks, or Ethernet-based building networks.
- Working knowledge of electrical safety practices, lockout/tagout procedures, and applicable codes and standards.
- Proficiency using digital multimeters, calibration tools, network testing equipment, and general electrical troubleshooting tools.
- Strong problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel between client sites if required.

Preferred Qualifications

- Associate degree in Electrical Technology, HVAC Controls, Automation Technology, or a related field.
- Certification in Building Automation Systems, Controls, HVAC, or Industrial Automation.
- Experience commissioning and integrating BAS systems in commercial, healthcare, life sciences, data center, manufacturing, or mission-critical facilities.
- Knowledge of energy management systems and facility optimization strategies.
- Experience working within CMMS platforms such as Maximo, SAP, or similar maintenance management systems.

The compensation that will be offered to the successful candidate will depend on factors such as whether the position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement, the geographic area in which the work will be performed, market pay rates in that area, and the candidate’s experience and qualifications.

The company will not pay less than minimum wage for this role.

The compensation for the position is: $34.85 - $41.00
