Job Description:

The Georgia Department of Education is hiring a School Bus Driver for the Georgia School for the Deaf located in Cave Spring, Georgia. This position provides transportation for students and staff of the Georgia School for the Deaf. The selected candidate is responsible for meeting all state driver licensure requirements and complying with laws governing the operation of a school bus. Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, the School Bus Driver ensures the safe transportation of students and staff, enforces school and state regulations, maintains order and safety on the bus, conducts pre- and post-trip inspections, performs routine cleaning of the vehicle, maintains trip records, and reports maintenance or repair needs. The driver is also expected to demonstrate courteous and professional behavior while interacting with students, staff, and the public.

Job Responsibilities

- Transport students and staff safely to and from assigned destinations.
- Operate a school bus in accordance with local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip vehicle safety inspections.
- Clean and inspect the bus following each trip.
- Maintain accurate records of all trips and submit reports on a weekly basis.
- Report vehicle maintenance concerns and repair needs to the supervisor.
- Possess knowledge of basic motor vehicle and school bus operation School bus safety policies and procedures Local and state traffic laws and regulations Local and state roads and highways Vehicle maintenance requirements and recordkeeping procedures

Preferred Qualificatio ns

- Previous school bus or commercial bus driving experience.
- Possess and maintain a valid Georgia Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
- American Sign Language (ASL) skills.
- Experience working with students in an educational setting.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
