Position Overview
The 30+ year company supports the petrochemical and manufacturing industry domestically and internationally and is positioned along the Gulf Coast providing training, occupational medicine, and innovative solutions to industry. The Paramedic provides occupational health and worksite medical services in clinic, mobile, and industrial settings. The position performs initial assessment and stabilization of workplace injuries and illnesses, provides first aid and emergency medical care within authorized scope and established medical protocols, facilitates physician or advanced practice provider evaluation when indicated, and performs occupational health testing and surveillance services. The Paramedic supports safe, efficient, and regulatory-compliant delivery of medical services to employees and employer clients.
Essential Functions
Occupational Health Services
- Performs occupational health testing and screening services within demonstrated competency and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Performs or assists with pulmonary function testing, occupational audiometry, respirator fit testing, vision screening, vital signs, specimen collection, and other authorized occupational health services.
- Performs respirator fit testing consistent with applicable respiratory protection requirements and organizational procedures.
- Performs drug and alcohol specimen collections and testing functions consistent with applicable DOT and non-DOT requirements and organizational procedures.
- Maintains required certifications and demonstrated competencies for occupational health testing assigned to the position.
- Ensures occupational testing equipment is appropriately maintained, calibrated, disinfected, quality-checked, and prepared for use according to manufacturer, regulatory, and organizational requirements.
- Accurately records testing results and promptly identifies results requiring review by an authorized medical provider.
Clinical Assessment, First Aid & Emergency Response
- Performs initial assessment of occupational injuries, illnesses, and workplace exposures within the Paramedic's authorized scope of practice and established medical protocols.
- Provides first aid and emergency medical care consistent with training, credentialing, applicable law, medical protocols, and physician medical direction.
- Recognizes potentially serious or emergent conditions and initiates appropriate stabilization, emergency response, EMS activation, or escalation to a physician or advanced practice provider.
- Obtains and documents pertinent history, vital signs, physical findings, mechanism of injury/exposure, treatment provided, and patient response.
- Performs approved clinical procedures and administers medications within authorized scope, established protocols, and applicable medical direction.
- Operates emergency medical equipment appropriate to assigned responsibilities, including EKG, AED/defibrillation, oxygen delivery, airway management, and other approved equipment.
- Maintains readiness of emergency medical supplies, medications, equipment, and response systems assigned to the work location.
Worksite & Industrial Medical Services
- Provides medical services at employer/client locations, occupational health clinics, mobile units, industrial facilities, and other assigned locations.
- Maintains familiarity with site-specific emergency response procedures, communication systems, hazards, and medical escalation pathways.
- Collaborates with site safety, emergency response, and occupational health personnel while maintaining appropriate clinical responsibilities and patient confidentiality.
- Participates in workplace emergency response and drills when assigned.
- Uses required personal protective equipment and complies with applicable client/site safety requirements.
- Travels to project locations and may remain at assigned locations for extended periods when required by the position.
Documentation, Confidentiality & Communication
- Completes accurate, timely, and appropriate documentation of patient encounters, testing, treatment, disposition, and communications.
- Maintains confidentiality of employee medical information and records in accordance with applicable requirements and organizational policies.
- Communicates changes in patient condition and other clinically significant information promptly to the supervising/evaluating medical provider.
- Provides clear and professional communication to patients, clinical personnel, employer representatives, and other stakeholders within the boundaries of the Paramedic's role.
- Maintains appropriate distinction between confidential medical information and information authorized for communication to the employer.
Telemedicine & Clinical Escalation
- Initiates and facilitates telemedicine encounters with physicians or advanced practice providers according to established clinical protocols.
- Obtains and communicates relevant history, vital signs, examination findings, photographs, testing results, and other clinical information necessary to support the remote medical evaluation.
- Assists the evaluating provider with examination maneuvers, testing, treatment, and patient education as directed and within authorized scope.
- Implements provider-directed treatment and disposition instructions within authorized scope and documents services provided.
- Recognizes circumstances requiring immediate escalation rather than routine telemedicine evaluation.
- Maintains appropriate communication with physician/provider leadership regarding changes in patient condition or concerns requiring additional medical evaluation.
Quality, Safety & Professional Responsibilities
- Maintains required licensure, certifications, continuing education, and demonstrated clinical competencies.
- Participates in competency assessments, quality assurance, chart review, training, and performance-improvement activities as required.
- Follows established medical protocols, standing orders, clinical procedures, infection-control practices, and organizational policies.
- Identifies and promptly escalates patient-safety, clinical, equipment, or regulatory concerns.
- Maintains clinical equipment, supplies, and treatment areas in a state of readiness.
- Collaborates effectively with physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, other paramedics, medical assistants, technicians, operations personnel, and client representatives.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Completion of an accredited or state-approved paramedic education program.
- Current, unrestricted Paramedic certification/licensure required for assigned practice location(s).
- Ability to obtain and maintain BLS certification.
- Ability to obtain and maintain ACLS certification.
- Ability to obtain and maintain required occupational health testing certifications and competencies.
- Ability to obtain and maintain applicable client/site access and safety credentials.
- Ability to travel and work at client locations for periods required by the position.
- Valid driver's license and ability to meet applicable organizational driving requirements when driving is an assigned responsibility.
Preferred Qualifications
- Two or more years of experience as a Paramedic.
- Experience in occupational health, industrial medicine, emergency medical services, emergency departments, urgent care, or a comparable clinical environment.
- Previous experience in oil & gas, petrochemical, refinery, chemical, manufacturing, construction, maritime, or other safety-sensitive industries.
- Current NIOSH-approved spirometry training when required by assigned duties.
- Current CAOHC Occupational Hearing Conservationist certification when required by assigned duties.
- Experience performing respirator fit testing.
- Experience with DOT and non-DOT drug and alcohol testing procedures.
- Experience facilitating telemedicine or remote physician/provider evaluations.

- Knowledge of infection-control practices, bloodborne pathogen precautions, and safe handling of medical equipment.

Physical & Environmental Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk, hear, read, use hands and fingers to operate a computer and office equipment, and communicate verbally and in writing. The employee may occasionally stand, walk, bend, reach, and lift or move items up to 25 pounds, such as files, office supplies, or materials. Specific vision abilities required include close vision and the ability to view and read information on a computer screen.
Work is primarily performed in an industrial facility but may also take place in occupational health clinics, mobile medical units, outdoor settings, and employer or client locations. The employee may be exposed to weather conditions, noise, industrial environments, blood or other potentially infectious materials, and other occupational hazards requiring appropriate personal protective equipment. The position may require substantial travel, variable schedules, after-hours work, and extended assignments away from the employee's primary work location. Reporting Responsibilities
The Paramedic reports directly to the Regional Medical Director. This position has no direct reports.
