About this role
The Field Technician Trainee supports the operation, maintenance, repair, troubleshooting, and documentation of water and wastewater systems serviced by PEAK Water Services. Responsibilities may include assisting with public water and wastewater treatment systems, lift and pump stations, distribution and collection systems, residential and commercial treatment units, control panels, valves, hydrants, meters, sampling, inspections, cleaning, utility locates, and emergency response.
The Trainee is an entry-level role that performs routine field service and maintenance under the direction of a higher-level technician, operator, or manager while gaining hands-on experience with water and wastewater systems. The role participates in the on-call rotation and may respond to after-hours calls, alarms, emergencies, and customer needs as assigned. This position requires travel within a three-hour radius of Helena, MT, Monday through Friday.
What you'll do:
- Assist with routine water and wastewater system inspections.
- Perform basic cleaning, maintenance, and housekeeping.
- Assist with pump, valve, float, filter, screen, and equipment checks.
- Support lift station and treatment system maintenance.
- Assist with sample collection and delivery as assigned.
- Load, unload, organize, and maintain tools, parts, and vehicles.
- Take photos and complete basic job notes.
- Follow safety procedures and PPE requirements.
- Communicate issues, parts needs, and job status to the lead technician or operator.
- Participate in on-call rotation and respond when assigned.
What you bring:
- Ability to use basic hand tools and small power tools safely.
- Ability to follow directions and complete assigned tasks reliably.
- Ability to recognize abnormal conditions and report them.
- Ability to work safely around wastewater, pumps, chemicals, equipment, and electrical panels within training limits.
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, pull, and move tools, pumps, hoses, parts, lids, and equipment up to 50lbs regularly and up to 75lbs occasionally.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to work around odors, wastewater, chemicals, mechanical equipment, electrical equipment, confined areas, and uneven terrain.
- Ability to use a phone, tablet, or computer for photos, notes, timekeeping, reports, and communication.
- Ability to follow PEAK policies, safety procedures, and PPE requirements.
- Ability to communicate clearly with coworkers, customers, and supervisors.
- Ability and willingness to participate in on-call rotation and respond to after-hours calls, alarms, and emergencies.
