Job Description
Primary Function of Position
The MRB Coordinator / IQC Inspector performs incoming quality inspection activities and supports the control, tracking, and disposition of nonconforming material through the Material Review Board (MRB) process. Under general supervision, this position conducts inspections, reviews quality documentation, performs sampling activities, records inspection results, and supports material acceptance decisions to ensure incoming materials meet established quality requirements.
The role also coordinates nonconforming material activities including material containment, inventory control, disposition processing, and MRB aging reduction efforts. The position works closely with Quality Engineering, Supplier Quality, Operations, Manufacturing Engineering, Supply Chain, and Warehouse teams to support product quality, inventory accuracy, and efficient material flow.
Essential Job Duties
MRB Coordination & Material Control
- Coordinate and monitor nonconforming material within the MRB process.
- Maintain accurate inventory records and location control of quarantined material.
- Segregate, identify, label, and transfer nonconforming material to designated MRB locations.
- Process material transactions within SAP and related business systems.
- Maintain records associated with Quality Notifications (QNs), dispositions, and inventory status.
- Track MRB aging and follow up with responsible stakeholders to support timely disposition decisions.
- Execute approved dispositions including return to supplier, rework, scrap, use-as-is, and release activities.
- Verify disposition approvals and documentation prior to material movement.
- Support continuous improvement activities related to inventory accuracy, material flow, and MRB cycle time.
IQC Inspection Support
- Perform incoming inspection of components, raw materials, and purchased products according to approved procedures, specifications, drawings, and sampling plans.
- Conduct visual, dimensional, and documentation inspections to verify compliance with quality requirements.
- Review Certificates of Conformance (CoC), packing slips, material certifications, RoHS documentation, expiration dates, and other quality records.
- Select inspection samples using approved sampling plans and AQL methodologies.
- Accurately document inspection results and maintain inspection records.
- Apply acceptance or rejection decisions based on established specifications and procedures.
- Identify, document, and escalate nonconforming conditions.
- Support containment activities for materials that fail inspection requirements.
- Assist Quality Engineers in investigations, discrepancy reviews, and verification activities.
- Support validation of inspection methods, inspection fixtures, and quality systems as assigned.
- Monitor inspection equipment status and ensure proper use of measurement devices.
Cross Functional Support
- Collaborate with Engineering, Supplier Quality, Manufacturing, Warehouse Operations, and Supply Chain teams to resolve quality issues.
- Support inspection prioritization activities to meet production and business requirements.
- Assist with inventory and material reconciliation activities.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, efficiency, and throughput.
Qualifications
Required Skills and Experience
- Experience performing inspections in a manufacturing, quality, or regulated environment.
- Ability to interpret drawings, specifications, work instructions, and quality procedures.
- Knowledge of inspection techniques, sampling plans, and documentation requirements.
- Ability to use measurement equipment such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, pin gauges, optical comparators, and other inspection tools.
- Ability to identify and document nonconformances.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Experience using ERP and quality systems such as SAP or equivalent.
- Ability to accurately perform inventory and material transactions.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and work independently.
Required Education and Training
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in quality inspection, manufacturing quality, incoming inspection, inventory control, or related operations.
- Experience in a regulated manufacturing environment preferred.
Working Conditions
- Ability to lift, move, load, and unload materials weighing up to 49 pounds.
- Frequent walking, standing, bending, squatting, reaching, lifting, and other repetitive physical activities throughout the workday.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, including shifts exceeding eight (8) hours when required.
- Ability to safely operate forklifts, pallet jacks and other material handling equipment.
- Ability to safely work at heights up to 40 feet when required.
- Work may be performed in MRB, warehouse or IQC laboratory.
- May be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety shoes, harness, safety glasses and other site-required equipment.
- Must be able to work varying shifts and overtime as required to support business needs.
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Medical device manufacturing experience.
- Experience performing incoming inspection activities.
- Knowledge of Material Review Board (MRB) processes.
- Experience with Quality Notifications (QNs).
- Familiarity with AQL sampling methodologies.
- Working knowledge of SAP, EWM, Agile, and Microsoft Office.
- Experience supporting warehouse and inventory control activities.
- Knowledge of Good Documentation Practices (GDP).
