Location: West Chester, PA
The H&S Specialist 1 is an entry-level environmental, health, and safety professional who supports the planning and execution of safe work across the field and project environments. Working under the direct guidance of experienced EHS personnel, this role assists with hazard identification, regulatory compliance, safety documentation, field observations, and implementation of project-specific safety requirements. The position is designed to build broad technical capability through field assignments, formal training, and mentoring.
Expected Outcomes :
- Support safe project execution through accurate field observations, hazard communication, documentation, and follow-through.
- Build working knowledge of Weston EHS requirements and applicable federal, state, and local safety regulations.
- Prepare accurate and timely safety documentation for project teams and internal or client use.
- Develop technical capability through progressively more complex assignments, formal training, and mentoring.
- Maintain required training, certifications, licenses, medical surveillance qualifications, and personal protective equipment readiness.
- Demonstrate accountability, professionalism, responsiveness, and continuous learning in field and project environments.
Key Responsibilities :
- Support project safety activities under appropriate supervision, with an initial focus on low-risk work and progressively more complex assignments.
- Conduct field observations, identify hazards, and communicate findings to project personnel and EHS leadership.
- Prepare and maintain accurate safety records, daily field logs, inspection documentation, and required forms.
- Transfer field information into safety planning documents and project-specific risk and hazard assessments.
- Assist with the preparation, implementation, and maintenance of Accident Prevention Plans (APPs), Site Safety and Health Plans (SSHPs), Health and Safety Plans (HASPs), and Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs).
- Verify that assigned work activities align with company policies, project requirements, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
- Support safe work practices for general construction, HAZWOPER, and mechanical work processes.
- Apply a working knowledge of OSHA requirements, NIOSH and AIHA guidance, USACE EM 385-1-1, regulatory codes, local ordinances, and basic design and construction specifications.
- Use Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams to prepare accurate, professional internal and client deliverables.
- Participate in field assignments, formal training, and mentoring to strengthen technical and professional capabilities.
- Maintain required training, certifications, licenses, and medical surveillance qualifications.
- Review and comply with the EHS Policy Statement, EHS Standard Operating Procedures, EHS Field-Level Documents, and applicable project planning documents.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities :
- Bachelor's degree in occupational safety, industrial hygiene, environmental health, engineering, construction management, or a related field; equivalent relevant education and experience may be considered.
- Foundational knowledge of workplace hazard recognition, risk assessment, and control methods.
- Ability to read and interpret safety procedures, regulations, technical documents, and basic construction specifications.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams.
- Strong written and verbal communication, organization, documentation, and attention-to-detail skills.
- Ability to work effectively under direct supervision, accept coaching, and manage assigned priorities.
- Ability to meet project-specific training, medical surveillance, and personal protective equipment requirements.
Preferred Qualifications :
- Internship, cooperative education, or limited professional experience supporting construction, environmental remediation, industrial, or field safety activities.
- Current or planned pursuit of relevant safety or industrial hygiene credentials as eligibility requirements are met.
- Interest in developing specialty expertise in areas such as confined space entry, lockout/tagout, work at height, exposure assessment, or air sampling.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements
Work may be performed in office, construction, industrial, and outdoor field settings. Assignments may require travel; variable schedules; use of required personal protective equipment; exposure to weather, noise, dust, and active work areas; and the ability to walk or stand for extended periods, climb stairs or ladders, and carry routine field equipment. Specific requirements will be communicated for each assignment and applied in accordance with applicable law and company policy.
