About this role
Position Summary
Under the direction of Engineering leaders, the role uses engineering principles and design software, to help design, develop, and produce electrical switchgear systems and/or components to required specifications, focusing on safety, reliability, quality, value and sustainability.
Job Responsibilities
- Perform design work for projects utilizing principles of mechanical & electrical engineering.
- Utilizes computer software, drawings, and other tools to perform engineering tasks.
- Coordinates manufacturing, installation, maintenance support documentation and testing activities to ensure compliance with specification, codes and design requirements.
- Establishing construction, manufacturing, or installation standards or specifications by performing a wide range of detailed calculations.
- Inspects completed installations and observes operations to ensure conformance to design and equipment.
- Review drawings to ensure technical and regulatory compliance
- Responsible for reviewing jobs to ensure the job meets or exceeds Customer expectations.
- Work with Purchasing and Vendors to receive quotes and lead times to complete design.
- Work with and understand basic electrical and control system principles and a familiarity with reading electrical schematics, three-line diagrams and control / communication diagrams.
- IEEE, CSA, WCB, OSHA compliance and conformance that can deliver an excellent safety record.
- Work competently with Solidworks and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Power Point, Excel, Outlook).
- Provide excellent communication skills, organizational skills (coordinate multiple group efforts within the company to achieve results) and problem-solving skills.
- Identify processes needing improvement and make recommendations towards improvement.
- Coordinate with line management to deliver high quality products on time and budget.
- Understand and follows company policies, provincial, federal, and safety polices.
- Able to work overtime (nights and weekends) to complete jobs in progress.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Experience and Qualifications:
- Diploma, Journeyperson Certification or 4 years of experience.
- Knowledge with AutoCad, AutoDesk Inventor, Solid Works and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience with switchgear design preferred, mechanical aptitude is essential
- Knowledge of heat transfer mechanics and basic beam strength calculations an asset
- Effectively communicate verbally and in writing with customers and peers.
- Dependable and responsible with good judgment and organizational skills.
- Good customer service, time management and follow-up skills.
- Self-management of assigned projects and job cost accountability to perform work within budgeted cost estimates.
- Able to meet deadlines and handle multiple tasks.
- Focus on accuracy and efficiency.
For positions that utilize a company vehicle, you will be required to have a valid drivers license.

Additional Information
Travel: Up to 5%
Physical Demands: Occasionally lifting a maximum of 50lbs on a daily. Position requires standing and using computer and/or phone for extended periods of time.
