About the Team

The Community Health Clinical Engineering team manages the medical equipment program across a diverse network of healthcare facilities.

Responsibilities include:

- Preventive and corrective maintenance programs
- Equipment inventory management
- Medical device recall management
- Regulatory compliance activities
- Vendor and service contract oversight
- Capital planning support
- Equipment lifecycle management
- Clinical customer support

The department is currently focused on improving regulatory readiness, strengthening equipment management processes, supporting facility expansion, enhancing customer service, and standardizing operations across the health system.

Position Summary

The Manager, Clinical Engineering provides operational leadership for Clinical Engineering services across Community Health facilities.

This role is responsible for ensuring medical equipment is safe, available, compliant, and properly maintained while supporting staff development, customer engagement, operational performance, and strategic growth initiatives.

The successful candidate will serve as a trusted partner to clinical, operational, and executive leaders while maintaining a strong focus on accountability, customer service, and team development.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Staff Development

- Lead, coach, and develop Clinical Engineering personnel
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and customer service
- Support employee engagement, retention, succession planning, and professional development
- Conduct performance management and staff coaching activities

Operational Excellence

- Monitor operational metrics, preventive maintenance completion, and work order performance
- Coordinate staffing and workload across multiple facilities
- Improve equipment inventory accuracy and asset management processes
- Ensure effective recall management and equipment tracking

Clinical & Customer Engagement

- Partner with hospital, physician practice, and operational leadership
- Address equipment concerns and customer service needs
- Build strong relationships across the Community Health network
- Serve as a strategic resource for healthcare technology management

Regulatory & Compliance Oversight

- Support Joint Commission, CMS, FDA, and regulatory readiness
- Ensure compliance with medical equipment management requirements
- Identify and mitigate operational and patient safety risks
- Support survey preparation and response activities

Financial & Strategic Planning

- Manage vendor relationships and service contracts
- Support capital equipment planning and replacement strategies
- Ensure responsible stewardship of departmental resources
- Identify opportunities for operational improvement and system growth

Projects & Expansion

- Support construction, renovation, and expansion projects
- Participate in technology implementation initiatives
- Assist with standardization efforts across Community Health and UVA Health
- Collaborate on long-term strategic planning efforts

- Clinical Engineering leadership experience
- Healthcare Technology Management (HTM) experience
- Hospital-based healthcare experience
- Experience managing technical service teams
- Knowledge of healthcare regulatory requirements including Joint Commission, CMS, and FDA standards
- Experience managing medical equipment programs
- Vendor and service contract management experience
- Budget and financial management experience
- CMMS experience
- Multi-site operational leadership experience

Preferred Certifications

- Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET)
- Certified Healthcare Technology Manager (CHTM)
- Project Management Professional (PMP)
- Other relevant leadership or project management certifications

What You Should Know

Full-Time, On-Site Leadership Position

- Full-time, 1.0 FTE
- 100% onsite
- Regular travel between Community Health facilities required
- Supports hospitals, clinics, procedural areas, imaging departments, and physician practices
- Availability for urgent operational escalations is expected when necessary

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Bachelor’s Degree preferred

Experience: 4+ years relevant professional experience, to include 2+ years formal managerial experience preferred.

Licensure: Valid Virginia Driver’s License (VADL) required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.

The pay range for this role is $94,993.60 - $175,565.00 annually. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.
