- Lead or review flow calculations, valve sizing, thermal analysis, tolerance analysis, GD&T, FEA, CFD and FMEA as appropriate.
- Ensure that mechanical design decisions are traceable to the system specification, system architecture, P&ID and applicable customer requirements.
- Define critical characteristics and design controls for pressure boundaries, functional components and safety-related mechanical features.
- Provide mechanical technical input to product certification, safety reviews, verification plans and qualification testing.
- Own mechanical technical content for design changes, ECRs and product improvements; provide technical approval within the assigned authority.
- Support root-cause analysis, reliability improvement, field upgrades, obsolescence decisions and technology migration.
Product development and customer support
- Partner with other engineering functions during RFQ, feasibility, technical quotation and new design proposal activities.
- Evaluate customer-specific requirements and determine whether they can be addressed through standard configuration, approved option, regional platform variation or product design change.
- Support system architecture and P&ID reviews for new products, ETO solutions and customer applications.
- Participate in customer technical reviews and resolve mechanical, fluid, thermal and installation-related questions.
- Support prototype builds, laboratory qualification, Alpha/Beta testing, FAT/SAT readiness and post-commercialization technical support.
Manufacturing and lifecycle interface
- Provide design-for-manufacturing and design-for-assembly input to Manufacturing Engineering.
- Define design intent and critical characteristics while Manufacturing Engineering develops production drawings, manufacturing packages, production BOM and manufacturing release documentation.
- Review manufacturability, supplier capability, fabrication methods, weldability, inspection requirements and service access.
- Support technical handoff from Product Engineering to Manufacturing and ensure that approved design baselines are correctly applied.
- Work with Product Configuration & Technical Data Engineering to maintain Master BOM, Alternative BOM, Option Matrix, product revisions and design traceability.
- Participate in ECT/ECR meetings as the Mechanical Technical Owner when relevant; the Manufacturing ECR Coordinator chairs the meeting and tracks actions.
Team and capability leadership
- Lead, coach and develop mechanical, fluid, thermal and materials engineers.
- Establish technical standards, design methods, review checklists and reusable design practices.
- Build capability in mechanical analysis, fluid systems, thermal management, materials and product reliability.
- Plan team capacity and allocate resources across RFQ, new product development, ETO, sustaining, certification and field-support activities.
- Promote a culture of technical rigor, design ownership, knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with global technical chapters and regional application teams to align product standards while responding effectively to local requirements.
Key deliverables
- Mechanical and fluid product design baselines
- Equipment and mechanical interface definitions
- Pressure-boundary and material-compatibility assessments
- Flow calculations and component-sizing decisions
- Design calculations and analysis reports
- Mechanical design review records
- FMEA and risk-reduction actions
- Critical characteristic definitions
- Mechanical verification and qualification inputs
- Mechanical certification evidence
- Mechanical design-change and ECR technical packages
- Reliability, failure-analysis and corrective-action recommendations
- Manufacturing design-input and technical handoff packages
Who you are:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering or a closely related discipline.
- Typically 1 0 + years of relevant engineering experience , including experience leading mechanical or system design activities.
- Experience in industrial equipment, fluid handling systems, process equipment, industrial automation or any other safety-critical equipment environment.
- Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, tolerance analysis, GD&T, design reviews and engineering change management.
- Experience supporting product certification, customer design approval, FAT/SAT, field troubleshooting or RMA activities.
- Familiarity with 3D CAD, product lifecycle management and engineering data traceability.
- Experience leading cross-functional engineering work involving mechanical, electrical, software, manufacturing, quality and customer-facing teams.
- Experience managing engineers, setting priorities, reviewing technical work and developing team capability.
- Ability to communicate complex technical issues clearly in English in a global engineering environment.
Preferred qualifications - Additional
- Experience with specialty gas, chemical, precursor, abatement, purge, vent or drain systems.
- Demonstrated experience with fluid systems, piping, pressure boundaries, valves, regulators, sensors, fittings and material compatibility.
- Experience with at least several of the following: flow calculation, valve sizing, thermal analysis, FEA, CFD, FMEA, pressure/leak testing, welding, fabrication or supplier manufacturing processes.
- Experience with semiconductor customer requirements and standards such as SEMI, NFPA, IEC, UL/NRTL, ISO or applicable Korean regulations.
- Experience with HAZOP, risk assessment, product safety, chemical compatibility and pressure-boundary review.
- Experience with design for manufacturing, design for assembly, supplier development or contract manufacturing.
- Experience working with global product platforms and regional customer/application requirements.
Leadership profile
You are a technically credible engineering leader who can move between product strategy, detailed engineering review and day-to-day team execution. You are comfortable making decisions with incomplete information, identifying risks early and escalating issues when product safety, reliability, compliance or customer commitments are affected.
You bring:
- Technical depth: You can challenge assumptions and make sound mechanical and fluid-design decisions.
- Systems thinking: You understand how mechanical design interacts with process, controls, electrical, software, manufacturing and service.
- Execution discipline: You turn requirements and design decisions into clear deliverables, owners and deadlines.
- Customer orientation: You understand customer needs without compromising product integrity or design standards.
- People leadership: You develop engineers, create technical clarity and build a high-performing team.
- Global collaboration: You work effectively across regions, time zones and functional boundaries.
How success will be measured
- Architecture and design reviews completed on time with clear technical decisions.
- Reduction in post-release mechanical design changes and critical design escapes.
- Strong first-pass performance in pressure, leak, functional and FAT-related testing.
- Accurate and traceable mechanical input to P&ID, CSBOM, drawings and product baselines.
- Effective conversion of customer requirements into robust, manufacturable designs.
- Timely closure of mechanical design actions, ECRs, field issues and reliability improvements.
- Growth of internal mechanical, fluid, thermal and materials engineering capability.
