Job Title: Wire Harness/Bench Build Technician Job Description
As a Wire Harness/Bench Build Technician, you will be responsible for constructing and retrofitting electrical test benches for software integration validation testing. This role plays a vital part in supporting the development of innovative electric and autonomous driving technologies by building and maintaining advanced systems and subsystems for HIL/Infotainment/Electrical development test benches.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain new and existing electrical system/Infotainment subsystem benches.
- Update physical parts and change out parts such as Electronic Control Units (ECUs) and components.
- Create schematics using ICDe for the modules.
- Develop harnesses for instruments and automated testing.
- Resolve issues related to bench wiring, hardware updates, and software/calibration flashing.
- Respond to user requests to set up benches according to testing requirements.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams and act as a liaison for unresolved issues.
- Maximize runtime on all assets and document work appropriately.
- Decommission obsolete and out-of-production benches, equipment, and spare parts as necessary.
- Verify and validate that the benches are operational and configured without hardware or instrumentation issues.
- Work with teams to resolve issues quickly and ensure benches are fully updated and operable.
- Create and update the list of internal bench schematics for each module and tools.
- Schedule meeting notices with the respective users/operations for the bench builds/retrofits.
- Coordinate any roadblocks by working with Operations, Inventory, and Strategy.
- Coordinate on ordering the bench technician material.
Essential Skills
- Associate Degree in Automotive Technology or Electrical/Electronic Engineering or related field.
- 3+ years of experience as a technician in the automotive industry working on electrical-related parts and components.
- Ability to read ICDes and create and modify schematics.
- Experience in supporting root cause analysis for hardware.
- Soldering skills (board level, connectors, and harnesses).
- Knowledge of various automotive connectors, terminals, locks, and crimping tools used.
- Proficient technical skills including MS Office (Word, Excel), SharePoint, and Outlook.
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to collaborate effectively across functions and cultures.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- 4+ years of experience as an electrical technician in the automotive industry.
- Understanding of Functional Safety/DVUL.
- Excellent problem-solving skills (DFSS / Red X certification).
- Solid understanding of the Global Vehicle Development Process (GVDP).
- High voltage training.
- Mechanic skills for vehicle module installation/updating.
- Fixture building experience.
Work Environment
This position requires on-site work full-time in a dynamic and technically diverse environment. The work involves troubleshooting and maintaining production and stamping equipment, VFDs, servo motors, network communication devices, machinery, control systems, and automation. The technician will be working around active manufacturing equipment and should be comfortable with different shifts or scheduled overtime when required. The environment fosters skill development and involvement in advanced automotive technology and engineering projects.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract position based out of Markham, ON.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $35.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
