Senior Cyber Engineer

Help protect a large and complex technology estate. You will lead the development and optimisation of key security technologies, provide senior technical expertise and help embed security solutions into day-to-day operations.

About the role

Our Cyber Security Engineering team protects information assets and supports the detection, analysis and response to security events. We are looking for a Senior Cyber Engineer to strengthen the team and provide hands-on technical leadership across our security technology estate.

Working closely with security leaders, architects, technology operations teams and third-party suppliers, you will ensure our security tools are configured effectively, deliver the right level of protection and provide useful information to Security Operations.

What you'll do

- Maintain and develop key security technologies, ensuring Security Operations has reliable access to the tools and information it needs.

- Work with security architects and technology operations teams to improve the configuration and performance of supporting security technologies.

- Lead technical activity to strengthen protection and logging across new and existing technologies.

- Act as a senior technical subject matter expert for security projects and support their transition into business-as-usual operations.

- Produce and present relevant KPI and KRI reporting, providing clear recommendations to senior stakeholders.

- Build strong relationships across technology teams and provide practical guidance on the placement, maintenance and support of security technologies.

- Lead and direct third-party suppliers, making sure delivery and support meet agreed timescales and service levels.

- Coach and develop less experienced engineers and support the effective delivery of a small team.

What you'll bring

- At least five years of experience in a similar security engineering role within a large, complex and technologically diverse organisation.

- Strong experience of deploying, maintaining and configuring a broad range of security technologies in a complex environment.

- In-depth technical knowledge across areas such as SIEM, DLP, firewalls, cloud security centres, intrusion prevention, cyber threat intelligence and vulnerability scanning.

- Strong leadership, influencing and supplier management skills, with the judgement to make clear, risk-based recommendations.

- Excellent analytical skills and the ability to move between the big picture and the technical detail.

- Clear written, verbal and presentation skills, with the ability to explain security risks and recommendations to technical and non-technical audiences.

- The ability to remain calm under pressure, set direction and make timely decisions.

- Experience of coaching and developing engineers.

Qualifications

- A degree in Computer Science, Cyber Security or equivalent practical experience.

- Relevant technical or professional security qualifications.
