About this role
Summary: Adjunct Faculty at the University serve as instructors engaged on a course-by-course or term-by-term basis to deliver instruction within assigned programs. Adjunct Faculty are responsible for the effective facilitation of assigned courses in alignment with approved syllabi, program learning outcomes, and the University’s academic standards.
This position does not carry scholarship, governance or service, administrative, supervisory, or programmatic leadership responsibilities. Specific credential requirements, expectations, and course assignments are defined by the Program Director and/or Dean and may vary by discipline and delivery format. Adjunct Faculty are subject to the applicable provisions of the Faculty Handbook and Employment Handbook.
Essential Job Functions:
1. Teaching and Instruction
- Faculty are responsible for delivering course content in a manner that is consistent with the mission, vision, and values of the institution. Courses shall be in alignment with the Institutional Learning Outcomes (ILOs), Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs), and Course Learning Outcomes (CLOs).
- Maintain an active, regular, and substantive instructional presence throughout each assigned course, whether in-person, online asynchronous, or online synchronous, consistent with the Faculty Handbook (if applicable).
- Faculty are required to hold office hours at a time convenient for student participation and in accordance with the expectations outlined in the Faculty Handbook (Section: Determination of Faculty Workload – Office Hours).
- Create and administer assessments aligned with the approved course syllabus, and grade student work within the timelines and quality standards established for the program.
- Provide specific, criterion-referenced, and developmental feedback that reflects the rigor of each assignment by applying rubrics consistently and transparently.
- Maintain accurate and current course records and grades in the University’s learning management system in accordance with University policy.
- Submit required course materials, including syllabi and/or course shells, by the deadlines established in the Online Faculty Expectations (if applicable) and program calendar.
- Demonstrate consistent, meaningful engagement with individual students, and foster a respectful, inclusive, and professional academic environment.
- Refer students experiencing academic difficulty or distress to the appropriate program leadership or institutional resource in a timely manner.
- Notify program leadership in advance of any planned absence during an active course period and coordinate coverage as needed.
2. Professional Conduct and Compliance
- Uphold and enforce the University’s Academic Dishonesty and Plagiarism Policy and report suspected violations in accordance with institutional procedures outlined in the Faculty Code of Professional Ethics section of the Faculty Handbook.
- Comply with applicable accreditation and regulatory standards governing course delivery and student accommodation.
- Maintain current licensure, certification, and/or professional credentials required by the assigned program and discipline throughout the appointment.
- Participate in adjunct orientation and any program-specific onboarding required prior to the first day of instruction.
- Adhere to the Faculty Handbook and Employment Handbook and treat all members of the University community with respect in accordance with established University values.
- Represent the University professionally in all interactions with students, colleagues, preceptors, clinical partners, and external stakeholders.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
Education, Training, and/or Experience:
- Graduate or terminal degree in the discipline or a closely related field as required by the assigned program and applicable accreditation standards.
- For programs requiring licensure: the relevant professional degree and active licensure in good standing are required.
- Prior teaching experience at the collegiate or professional level preferred.
- Experience with online course delivery (if applicable) and learning management systems preferred; required for all online course assignments.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Personal Characteristics
- Effective verbal and written communication skills appropriate to a graduate or professional academic environment.
- Ability to provide timely, constructive, and substantive written feedback on complex academic assignments.
- Organizational skills sufficient to manage assigned course responsibilities.
- Commitment to student-centered instruction and inclusive pedagogical practice.
- Proficiency, or demonstrated ability to develop proficiency, with the University’s learning management system and instructional technology tools.
- Ability to maintain professional and collegial relationships with program leadership, faculty, students, and institutional staff.
Physical Demands
- Nature of work requires the ability to operate standard business and educational technology, including computer equipment, videoconferencing platforms, and learning management systems.
- Requires the ability to communicate and exchange information effectively in written and verbal form.
- For courses with laboratory or clinical components, requires the ability to demonstrate and supervise hands-on skills in compliance with applicable safety and accreditation standards.
Working Conditions
- Work is performed in a classroom, clinical, laboratory, or remote online environment depending on course format and program assignment.
- On-campus presence is required as defined in the Faculty Handbook and Faculty Workload Assignment (if applicable); remote or hybrid arrangements are subject to institutional policy and supervisory approval.
- Evening and weekend hours may be required depending on course scheduling, program need, and/or position assignment.
Governance
This is a per-course / trimester adjunct appointment governed by the Adjunct Faculty Employment Agreement, Faculty Handbook, and Employment Handbook. Adjunct faculty are only contracted on an as-needed, trimester-to-trimester basis. Because adjunct contracts are issued as needed on a trimester-to-trimester basis, adjunct faculty should not assume their contract will be renewed for consecutive trimesters.
