About SALAM Weekend School
SALAM Weekend School (WES) is the Sunday Islamic education program of SALAM Islamic Center in Sacramento, built around one goal: Building Islamic Identity. Every Sunday, students from Level 1 through Level 8, plus our Youth Group, study three core subjects — Quranic Arabic, Quran (reading, tajweed and hifz), and Islamic Studies — with a dedicated team of teachers, assistants and staff at 4545 College Oak Drive.
Position Summary
The Vice Principal works alongside the Principal to lead the school's academic program, support and develop faculty, and maintain a safe, nurturing learning environment grounded in Islamic values. This is a part-time, in-person leadership role centered on Sundays, with a few flexible hours during the week for meetings and planning.

Key Responsibilities
Instructional leadership
- Work with the Principal on curriculum, programs, and materials in Quranic Arabic, Quran, and Islamic Studies across Levels 1–8
- Oversee the Youth Group program, developing age-appropriate curriculum that connects Islamic teachings to the everyday lives of teens
- Observe classes regularly and help teachers adapt instruction to students' different needs and abilities
- Coordinate first-day placement testing, midterms and finals, and review results with teachers to strengthen the program
Staff supervision and development
- Serve as the first line of support for teachers, holding individual conferences on instructional, classroom-management and professional concerns and documenting follow-up through resolution
- Help the Principal select, place and evaluate teachers and teaching assistants
- Coach new teachers through their first semester; plan and lead staff meetings and training days
- Arrange class coverage when a teacher is absent
Student discipline and safety
- Handle and document escalated student behavior under the school's progressive discipline policy, in partnership with the Principal
- Walk the campus during class time, lunch and dismissal, and make sure child-safety standards, including the two-adult rule, are followed
- Support crisis response when needed and help keep safety and emergency plans current
Families and community
- Facilitate parent conferences on escalated academic or behavioral concerns, working toward shared solutions and keeping the Principal informed
- Communicate with families about programs and student progress through school-approved channels
- Represent the school at SALAM events and work with parent volunteers
School programs and events
- Lead back-to-school preparation each semester, including classroom readiness, materials, teacher orientation and family communications
- Plan and manage Weekend School events throughout the year, from parent meetings and student recognition to the end-of-year graduation ceremony
Administration
- Serve as acting Principal when the Principal is away
- Explain and apply school policies in the Family and Staff Handbooks
- Help track attendance, keep classrooms and supplies in order, and run Sunday logistics
- Other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
Required
- 3+ years of teaching experience in a school, Islamic school, weekend school or youth education program
- Solid grounding in Islamic knowledge and practice, and the character to model it for students and staff
- Ability to plan and run programs, supervise and train staff, set priorities, and apply policies fairly
- Builds strong working relationships with teachers, parents and students; handles difficult conversations with tact, patience and discretion
- Comfortable with email, shared documents and group messaging
- Available every Sunday of the Fall and Spring semesters, plus occasional weekday meetings
- Willing to complete a background check and child-safety (mandated reporter) training
Preferred
- Bachelor's degree; a degree in education or Islamic studies is a plus
- 1+ year of supervisory or administrative experience (vice principal, coordinator, department lead, program director)
- Teaching or administrative credential (welcome, not required)
- Experience with youth or teen programming and curriculum design
- Ties to the Sacramento Muslim community
Schedule & Compensation
- Sundays: 8:30 AM – 2:30 PM, in person (school runs 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM).
- Weekdays: about 3–5 flexible hours a week for teacher and parent meetings, planning and email.
- Calendar: Fall and Spring semesters, plus staff training days before each semester.
- Compensation: Competitive monthly stipend, commensurate with experience.
Working Conditions
- On site every Sunday, on your feet for long stretches, moving between classrooms, the prayer hall and the outdoor yard
- Lively, sometimes loud environment with many children, especially at lunch and dismissal
