About this role

Position Purpose:       Provide leadership in development, execution and oversight of human resources practices that support and advance the School’s mission and strategic plan. Leads, directs and coordinates all human resources activities including hiring and retention, compensation, regulatory compliance, employee relations and engagement, benefits, and policy development. Coordinates with senior leadership of the school, serving as a trusted partner for the Head of School and the One School team.

•    Work closely with Head of School and other senior administrators to develop and implement HR programs that are rooted in best practices and support the mission and strategic plan of the School.
•    Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state and local laws related to employment practices and employee benefits. This includes, but is not limited to, FLSA, ADA, ERISA, DOL, FMLA, PPACA, and OSHA.
•    Manage all aspects of the employee lifecycle, from recruitment and onboarding through development, retention and separation of mission-appropriate talent.
•    Serve as a key advisory to the Head of School and the One School leadership team on employee relations and other human resources matters.
•    Develop and maintain the School’s personnel policies, procedures, employee handbook, and HR related practices, recommending changes as appropriate.
•    Build positive relationships across the organization, supporting a positive work culture, employee satisfaction, wellness, and retention.
•    Lead and coordinate faculty and staff appreciation and community-building events, schoolwide meetings, employee celebrations, and Teacher Appreciation Week.
•    Develop and coordinate all new faculty, post-planning and pre-planning trainings and events, ensuring that trainings meet state of Florida and FCIS mandated topics, and are aligned to advance the cultural strength of the school community.
•    Develop and execute employee retention strategies, to strengthen employee morale, support employee wellness, and help to retain highly valued school employees.
•    Provide guidance in the fair and consistent application of school policies, practices, and procedures
•    Conduct or oversee employee relations investigations and partner with legal counsel to address employment-related concerns and risks.
•    In partnership with the One School team, develop and manage the School’s performance evaluation and employee development processes, including the annual maintenance of related records.
•    Manage school-wide background screening and employment eligibility compliance, including applicable state and federal requirements.
•    In coordination with the Director of Operations, manage motor vehicle background screenings for vehicle fleet drivers.
•    Recommend process improvements that enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of HR functions
•    Stay current on best practices, developments in employment law, and changes to federal and state regulations; assess their potential impact on the School and keep the Head of School informed of relevant changes.
•    Collaborate with administrators to develop and maintain job descriptions, ensure appropriate job classifications, and with the Chief Financial Officer to maintain compliance with federal wage and hour requirements. 
•    Maintain employee handbooks, including development, review and recommendation of policies and procedures

•    In partnership with the Chief Financial Officer, manage and coordinate benefits programs including health, dental, FSA, short and long-term disability, life and AD&D, COBRA and workers compensation.
•    In partnership with an outside brokerage team, oversee the development of the Employee Benefits Guide, ensuring that benefits options and pricing are transparently explained and easily understood.
•    Manage all aspects of benefits administration, including providing support and guidance to employees in benefit selection, enrollment, and if needed, claims resolution.
•    In collaboration with the Chief Financial Officer, serve as administrator of the MEP 403(b) retirement plan, ensuring compliance with applicable regulatory and documentation requirements, including managing employee enrollment, census management, and match eligibility determinations.
•    In partnership with the One School team, develop and execute a school-wide strategic hiring process, with a focus on ascertaining the needs of each division and department, and the broader school community.
•    Manage all aspects of the talent acquisition process, including develop of job descriptions, requisitions, and intake of job candidate materials.
•    Develop, execute and manage recruitment strategies to identify and attract high caliber, mission-appropriate candidates to fill a range of administrative and faculty roles in the school community
•    Issue employment offer letters for all salaried faculty positions, and oversee administrative onboarding procedures.
•    In partnership with the One School team, develop and execute a comprehensive employee onboarding program focused on acclimating employees to the community and culture of Oak Hall, and providing new employees with the tools necessary to succeed as an employee and as an educator.
•    Oversee Step Up compliance, ensuring that all state mandated organizational, operational and employment requirements are met schoolwide on a continual and ongoing basis.
•    Oversee E-Verify and I-9 compliance, ensuring that all federal and state mandates for employment eligibility are met on a continual and ongoing basis.
•    Manage all employee off ramping, ensuring proper notice and security measures are met, and completing exit interviews with all departing employees.
•    Provide training and guidance to supervisors, including interviewing skills, employee coaching, performance review and documentation, and dispute management.
•    Oversee the maintenance of secure, confidential, and comprehensive employee personnel files.
•    Ensure appropriate records retention policies are implemented and managed school-wide.
•    Monitor and respond to unemployment and worker’s compensation claims, reports, hearings and audits.
•    Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

•    Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) or equivalent in human resources management or other relevant major, required
•    Five plus years human resources management experience with significant experience in benefits administration and/or management in an educational setting preferred
•    Professional certification (PHR/SPHR) preferred
•    Proficient in Paycom or other payroll/talent acquisition platform
•    Demonstrated leadership and initiative
•    Strong analytical, problem-solving and conceptual skills
•    Strong project management skills, with experience in organizing, planning and executing large-scale projects from the envisioning stage through to implementation
•    High level of personal and professional integrity.  Requires strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to translate complex regulations to individuals at all levels, and in all departments.
•    Technologically savvy with experience working in varying software programs and online platforms, including experience with payroll and benefit systems and the ability to deal with new software installations and data integration.
•    Excellent human resource management skills
•    Must be intelligent, self-confident, practical, mature and able to grasp and contribute to complex business discussions.  Possesses strength of character to challenge, influence and advocate for business decisions, tempered with sensitivity and ability to compromise as appropriate. Possess creativity, curiosity, openness to new ideas and a sense of humor.
