ALCOSAN is committed to providing wastewater treatment services 24 hours a day, seven days a week. From our Board of Directors to our Executive Director, leadership and staff; we work to enhance the community’s quality of life and safety by protecting our rivers and streams. After 60 years of continued design, construction and operations of the sewer system and treatment plant, we now have 400 plus employees serving residential, commercial and industrial customers in 83 communities throughout Allegheny County.

Position Summary

The Scholastic Services Representative serves as a liaison to schools and service providers within the ALCOSAN service area. They develop activities and programs aligned to PA Academic Standards (STEELS -Science, Technology and Engineering, Environmental Literacy and Sustainability) as well as the ALCOSAN annual Open House and Summer Science Camps.

Job Duties

- Provides lessons, programs and activities as assigned.

- Serves as the main point of contact between educators and students and ALCOSAN utilizing various methods of communication. Responsible for fulfilling, delegating and monitoring response.

- Plans, coordinates, and/or executes presentations and corresponding materials to schools, home based schools, and educational organizations and associations.

- Develops and updates educational materials based on educators’ needs, changes at ALCOSAN, and to meet state educational requirements.

- Develops new and innovative approaches to deliver organizational messages to target audiences.

- Develops collaborations with other educational organizations and non-profit groups to maximize credibility and resources.

- Operates vehicles in accordance with Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Motor Vehicles Codes.

- Conducts pre- and post-use inspections of assigned vehicles to verify safe operating condition and reports any maintenance or safety concerns.

- Assesses problems and takes corrective actions on own initiative or as directed by designated supervisor.

- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

- Assists with outreach activities and wastewater treatment plant tours, as needed.

Knowledge / Abilities

Extensive / Considerable knowledge of:

- Developing new and innovative approaches to deliver organizational messages to target audiences.

- Creating, developing and executing education activities.

- ALCOSAN’s mission and operations.

- Using all tools, equipment and materials of trade.

Working knowledge of:

- Public Speaking

- PA Academic Standards

- Classroom management and etiquette.

Ability to :

- Develop activities and programs aligned to PA Academic Standards(STEELS.)

- Responsible for fulfilling, delegating and monitoring responses from community.

- Staff exhibits and create or facilitate hands on activities within the ALCOSAN service area at community events, festivals, science fairs, etc.

- Develop activities for the ALCOSAN annual Open House, Summer Science Camps and signature programming.

- Assess problems and take corrective actions on own initiative.

Minimum Education Level Required

Bachelor’s degree in Education or a closely related field of study

Minimum Experience Required

Three (3) years teaching experience.

Required Certifications / Licenses

All Pennsylvania Department of Education-required certifications and clearances for the position, including Act 34 Criminal History Clearance, Act 151 Child Abuse Clearance, Act 114 FBI Criminal History Clearance, and a valid Pennsylvania Teaching Certificate. Also, a valid Driver's License.
