At our Navitas facilities we engage in the research, design, development, and manufacture of advanced lithium cells and energy storage products and systems for both commercial and industrial customers. We invest in our people, they are and always will be the heart of this company. Are you ready to join a family-owned enterprise committed to honoring the contributions of everyone? Then Navitas is the right place for you.
Overview
Navitas Systems is looking for a self-motivated Senior Software Engineer to support and improve our existing Battery Management Systems product line while also developing our next generation platform. This is an opportunity to join at the foundational stage of development and have a direct impact on the architecture, capabilities, and engineering practices that will shape our future products.
As part of a small multidisciplinary engineering team, this position will contribute across the product development V-model and take ownership of challenging technical problems from concept through production. The ideal candidate has strong electronics fundamentals, hands-on product experience, and the ability to work effectively across engineering disciplines with limited direction.
Responsibilities
- Develop and support BMS software from requirements and architecture through integration, verification, and production release.
- Develop BMS functions including protection, diagnostics, communications, cell monitoring, balancing, contactor control, and battery state estimation.
- Own complex BMS issues that cross software, electronics, communications, and battery system boundaries, driving them through root cause and resolution.
- Work directly with Systems, Hardware, Validation, Manufacturing, Quality, and Field Application teams to deliver and support complete battery products.
- Define verification methods and perform hands on integration and testing using BMS hardware, battery systems, and engineering test equipment.
- Provide technical direction and oversight for software activities performed by external engineering partners.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Controls Engineering, or related discipline.
- 7+ years developing embedded software or controls for production products using C/C++.
- Experience owning software through multiple stages of the V model, including requirements, design, implementation, integration, and verification.
- Experience developing and debugging software that directly interfaces with electronics, sensors, communications, and control hardware.
- BMS, battery, automotive, power electronics, industrial controls, or similar safety critical embedded product experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strong embedded C/C++ development, debugging, and real time software experience.
- Experience with CAN communications and protocols such as J1939 and UDS using tools such as CANalyzer or CANoe.
- Ability to read electrical schematics and troubleshoot interactions between software and hardware.
- Working knowledge of lithium ion battery protection, cell monitoring, balancing, diagnostics, and SOC/SOH concepts.
- Experience with requirements traceability, software architecture, configuration management, and structured verification.
- Demonstrated ability to take an ambiguous technical objective, define the work required, and independently drive it to completion.
- Proven ability to solve problems that cross software, hardware, systems, and test boundaries rather than working only within assigned software tasks.
- Comfortable working in a small engineering team to be both technically hands-on and accountable for product results.
- Able to communicate technical decisions, risks, and tradeoffs clearly across engineering disciplines.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Direct lithium ion BMS development experience from concept through production.
- MATLAB/Simulink, model based development, or production code generation experience.
- Functional safety experience with ISO-26262 or IEC 61508.
- ASPICE or V-model comparable structured product development experience.
- HIL, SIL, MIL, or automated embedded system verification experience.
