About this role
We are seeking a Licensed Mechanical Engineer (PE) with strong hands-on experience in HVAC and MEP design to join a multidisciplinary engineering team supporting commercial, institutional, healthcare, municipal, veterinary, and other specialized facilities.
This is a design-focused engineering position , not a project management role. The selected engineer will be responsible for developing mechanical designs, performing engineering calculations, preparing construction documents, coordinating with other disciplines, and serving as the Engineer of Record through construction and project closeout.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the mechanical design of HVAC and MEP systems for commercial and institutional facilities.
- Perform heating and cooling load calculations, energy analysis, ventilation calculations, and equipment sizing and selection.
- Develop mechanical plans, specifications, equipment schedules, details, and construction documents.
- Serve as the Engineer of Record and provide technical oversight from concept and design through construction.
- Coordinate mechanical designs with architectural, structural, electrical, plumbing, and other project disciplines.
- Review submittals, shop drawings, RFIs, and contractor questions and provide technical responses.
- Conduct site investigations, field surveys, inspections, and construction observations.
- Evaluate design conflicts, code issues, constructability concerns, and field conditions and develop appropriate solutions.
- Provide practical and cost-conscious engineering recommendations that meet project requirements.
- Support commissioning, inspections, punch-list resolution, and final project closeout.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable building codes, mechanical codes, energy standards, and client requirements.
- Review and seal engineering drawings, calculations, and specifications within the scope of licensure.
- Maintain accurate technical documentation and ensure engineering deliverables meet quality standards.
Requirements
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- 5+ years of mechanical engineering experience; 10+ years preferred.
- Demonstrated experience designing HVAC and MEP systems for commercial, institutional, or similar facilities.
- Strong knowledge of HVAC load calculations, equipment selection, ventilation design, mechanical codes, and energy requirements.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit MEP , or comparable mechanical design platforms.
- Experience producing and reviewing engineering drawings, specifications, calculations, and construction documents.
- Strong technical analysis, problem-solving, communication, and coordination skills.
- Experience working with architects, engineers, contractors, and other multidisciplinary project teams.
- Hands-on mechanical/HVAC design experience is required.
- Experience with healthcare, municipal, institutional, veterinary, or other technically complex facilities is preferred.
- Candidates whose background is primarily project management with limited hands-on mechanical design experience will not be considered.
