About this role
Key Responsibilities
- Operate telehandler/forklift to safely move, stage, and load/unload structural steel materials including I-beams, columns, and fabricated components in the yard
- Organize and maintain yard inventory, ensuring materials are properly staged for fabrication, shipping, and erection schedules
- Read and interpret shop drawings, pick lists, and material tags to accurately identify and handle steel components
- Assist with loading trucks, securing loads, and coordinating with drivers and shop personnel to ensure timely deliveries
- Perform routine equipment inspections, basic maintenance, and report any mechanical or safety issues
- Maintain a safe work environment by following company policies, proper rigging practices, and OSHA safety standards
Requirements
- Experience operating telehandlers, forklifts, or similar heavy equipment in a steel yard or construction environment
- Ability to safely handle large structural steel members (I-beams, plates, columns)
- Basic blueprint or material tag reading experience preferred
- Knowledge of rigging, load balancing, and safe material handling practices
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and lift 50+ lbs as needed
- Strong attention to detail, safety awareness, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment
