Job Title: Accounts Receivable Specialist Government Collections Job Description
The Accounts Receivable Specialist Government Collections manages complex AR activities within the federal government sector, focusing on timely collections, dispute resolution, and claim processing through government vendor portals. This role relies heavily on portal-based communication rather than direct customer contact and requires close collaboration with internal teams to investigate and resolve issues that delay payment.
Responsibilities
- Submit invoices for payment through federal government vendor portals in a timely and accurate manner.
- Process claims and follow up on outstanding balances using government portals and internal systems.
- Investigate and resolve payment delays, disputes, and discrepancies related to accounts receivable.
- Collaborate closely with Sales Management, Pricing, Contracts, Posting, and Order Entry teams to gather information and resolve issues impacting collections.
- Review and analyze AR aging reports to prioritize collection efforts and identify high-risk or overdue accounts.
- Manage debt and credit activities within the AR function, ensuring proper documentation and compliance with internal policies.
- Maintain accurate records of collection activities, communications, and resolutions in SAP or other ERP systems.
- Provide professional customer service support to internal stakeholders regarding AR status, disputes, and payment updates.
- Use Microsoft Office tools, including Excel with V-lookups, to prepare reports, track metrics, and support AR analysis.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of AR processes, especially those related to government collections and portal usage.
Essential Skills
- At least 3 years of hands-on accounts receivable experience.
- Proficiency in collections and AR processes, including aging report analysis and debt and credit management.
- Experience working with SAP or a tier 1 ERP system for AR and finance-related activities.
- Strong understanding of accounts receivable aging reports and their use in prioritizing collections.
- Ability to navigate and use government vendor portals for invoicing, claims processing, and dispute resolution.
- Solid customer service skills for effective communication with internal stakeholders.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, including the use of V-lookups.
- High school diploma or equivalent educational background.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Government collections experience is highly preferred, especially within the federal sector.
- background in finance or accounting, with familiarity in AR-related debt and credit processes.
- Ability to work effectively in a hybrid environment, balancing onsite collaboration with independent work.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in invoice submission, claim processing, and documentation.
- Effective problem-solving skills to identify root causes of payment delays and implement solutions.
- Ability to collaborate across multiple internal departments, including Sales Management, Pricing, Contracts, Posting, and Order Entry.
Work Environment
Initial training is conducted onsite full-time for the first two weeks to ensure thorough onboarding and familiarity with systems, government vendor portals, and internal processes. After training, the position follows a hybrid schedule, with in-office work required on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and remote work on other days. The role uses SAP or a tier 1 ERP system, Microsoft Office (including Excel with V-lookups), and government vendor portals as core tools. The environment emphasizes collaboration with cross-functional teams and structured processes for managing accounts receivable and government collections.

This is a Contract position based out of Salt Lake City, UT.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $21.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
