Position Summary

The Assistant Meat Manager supports the Meat Manager in leading the department and ensuring customers receive excellent service, quality products, and a clean, well-stocked shopping experience. This role assists with daily department operations, associate supervision, merchandising, inventory control, food safety, and maintaining company standards.
Key Responsibilities

- Assist the Meat Manager with the overall operation and performance of the Meat Department.

- Provide friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient customer service.

- Support, coach, and train Meat Department associates to ensure strong performance and consistent execution.

- Help assign daily tasks and monitor completion of department responsibilities.

- Maintain proper product levels by assisting with ordering, receiving, stocking, rotating, and merchandising products.

- Ensure meat cases and displays are full, fresh, organized, properly signed, and visually appealing.

- Monitor product quality, freshness, rotation, and expiration dates to minimize shrink and maintain high standards.

- Assist with inventory management, controlling shrink, and meeting department sales and profitability goals.

- Follow proper procedures for cutting, wrapping, weighing, labeling, pricing, and displaying meat products.

- Maintain accurate pricing and ensure advertised products and promotions are properly displayed.

- Ensure department equipment, work areas, coolers, cases, and storage areas are clean, organized, and maintained.

- Follow all food safety, sanitation, health, and workplace safety requirements.

- Help ensure associates follow proper food-handling procedures and use equipment safely.

- Assist with opening and closing department responsibilities as assigned.

- Step into the Meat Manager's leadership responsibilities when the Meat Manager is unavailable.

- Communicate department needs, staffing concerns, product issues, and operational opportunities to store leadership.

- Support other areas of the store as needed and contribute to a positive, team-oriented work environment.

Leadership Expectations

- Lead by example and maintain a professional, positive attitude.

- Provide clear direction and follow-up to department associates.

- Help develop associates through coaching, training, and ongoing feedback.

- Promote teamwork, accountability, urgency, and excellent customer service.

- Assist in maintaining department standards throughout the entire shift.

- Respond appropriately to customer concerns and help resolve issues quickly and professionally.

Qualifications

- Previous retail, grocery, meat department, or related experience preferred.

- Previous leadership or supervisory experience preferred.

- Strong customer service and communication skills.

- Ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities.

- Knowledge of meat products, merchandising, sanitation, and food safety practices is preferred.

- Ability to work independently while also contributing as part of a team.

- Must be dependable, organized, and able to demonstrate good judgment.

- Ability to work a flexible schedule based on business needs, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Physical Requirements

- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.

- Ability to bend, reach, push, pull, and perform repetitive motions.

- Ability to lift and move products, boxes, and department supplies as required.

- Ability to work in refrigerated and freezer environments.

- Ability to safely operate department tools and equipment after receiving appropriate training.
