Position Overview

The GR Experience Specialist reports to the Store Manager / Retail Director and plays a key role in delivering an exceptional in‑store experience for photography enthusiasts and professionals. This position requires a strong foundation in photography and hands‑on familiarity with modern camera systems, paired with the ability to translate technical knowledge into clear, engaging customer interactions. The ideal candidate is passionate about the craft, confident demonstrating gear, and skilled at guiding customers toward the right solutions through education, product expertise, and relationship‑building. This role blends sales performance with genuine customer connection, helping shoppers feel informed, inspired, and supported in their creative pursuits.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

Sales & Customer Engagement

- Deliver a high-touch, consultative sales experience tailored to each customer’s skill level, interests, and creative goals

- Confidently demonstrate cameras, lenses, and accessories, translating technical features into real-world benefits

- Guide customers through end‑to‑end product selection, ensuring they leave with the right gear for their needs

- Consistently meet or exceed individual and store sales targets through strong product knowledge and relationship‑building

Product Expertise

- Maintain deep, up‑to‑date knowledge of cameras, including features, firmware updates, and practical use cases

- Stay informed on competitive products, emerging technologies, and industry trends

- Provide expert recommendations on essential accessories such as memory cards, cases, batteries, filters, tripods, and printing solutions

In‑Store Experience

- Support the creation and upkeep of visually compelling product displays and merchandising standards

- Assist with in‑store events, including workshops, photo walks, product demos, and community activations

- Serve as a brand ambassador, representing both the store and its broader photography ecosystem with enthusiasm and professionalism

- Comfortable presenting in a group setting

Customer Relationship Management

- Build and nurture long‑term relationships with repeat customers and local photography communities

- Follow up on leads, inquiries, and service needs in a timely, professional, and personable manner

- Capture and share customer insights to support merchandising decisions, event planning, and product assortment

Qualifications (Education, Experience, and Certifications)

Required Qualifications

- Prior experience in retail sales, consumer electronics, or specialty retail

- Demonstrated experience with Ricoh GR cameras

- Strong foundational understanding of photography principles (exposure, composition, lighting, focal length, etc.)

- Understanding of photography styles, such as Street-photography, Travel, Portraits, etc.

- Ability to explain technical concepts clearly to customers ranging from beginners to advanced photographers

- Demonstrated success in meeting or exceeding sales goals

- Ability to translate deep product knowledge into engaging storytelling helps customers understand how gear supports their creative process.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience working in a camera store or photography‑focused retail environment

- Active photographer with a portfolio (street, documentary, or similar styles preferred)

- Familiarity with Adobe Lightroom or similar editing software

- Experience hosting workshops, tutorials, or educational sessions

- Knowledge of printing workflows, color management, and photo finishing

- Lifting & Carrying — Regularly lift and carry camera gear, lighting kits, tripods, printers, and boxed merchandise typically ranging from 10–40 lbs., with occasional items up to 50 lbs.

- Equipment Handling — Comfortable handling delicate, high‑value items such as cameras, lenses, drones, and accessories with steady hands and strong manual dexterity.

- Reaching & Positioning — Frequent reaching, bending, kneeling, and crouching to set up demo stations, adjust lighting, retrieve stock, and organize shelves.

- Visual Requirements — Clear near and distance vision to evaluate image quality, read product specs, inspect equipment, and assist customers with camera settings

- Fine Motor Skills — Ability to operate small buttons, dials, and touchscreen interfaces on cameras, lenses, and POS systems.

- Mobility — Navigate the sales floor, stockroom, and demo areas safely, including moving around tripods, lighting stands, and cables.

- Environmental Conditions — Work in a fast‑paced retail environment with varying noise levels, occasional bright lighting from demo setups, and temperature changes near store entrances.

- Communication — Speak clearly and hear well enough to explain product features, troubleshoot equipment, and engage with customers and team members.
