About this role
New York Public Radio seeks a dynamic, highly creative Temporary Producer for Terrestrials . This Producer is a content-maker for the show. This work involves producing episodes in close collaboration with the show’s Host and production team. This role is part of a small-but-mighty team who will work together collaboratively to ensure the highest quality for each episode. It is key to our show’s mission that every episode’s production focuses on rethinking expertise and prioritizes the search for diverse sources, and the entire team is tasked with carrying out that mission in the development of all episodes and seasons. This role reports to the Executive Producer, Terrestrials . Responsibilities:
- Work closely with the team (Host, EP, Producer), freelance contributors, and freelance editor/sound designer to produce episodes of Terrestrials .
- Pitch exciting, thought-provoking, original ideas for new and bonus episodes of Terrestrials
- Research story ideas, conduct pre-interviews, book guests, arrange logistics (studios/tape syncs)
- Source and book captivating guests with diverse voices, experiences, and perspectives
- Identify, gather, cut and assemble tape
- With editorial support from Host and SP, develop storyboards and create drafts of episodes in ProTools
- Coordinate outreach and tape collection for the Badgers segment of each episode.
- Produce content for social platforms, as needed
- Contribute to the editorial planning of the show as it evolves, attend pitch meetings
- Communicate consistently and clearly with other members of the team.
- Liaise with fact checkers as needed
- Write and produce content for web, newsletter, social media, and other platforms as needed.
- Other administrative duties as needed.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience producing narrative or reported content
- Experience with booking, pre-interviewing, tape cutting, story development, script writing and host collaboration
- Experience with audio editing
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, deadlines, and time-management
- Demonstrated success in the creation of superb content under pressure
- An independent work ethic combined with a love for and patience with the collaborative process
- The ability to learn and understand the content and sound for each show and adapt your style accordingly to reach our target audiences
- Fluency in audio editing with ProTools, and knowledge of Dropbox, DAVID, CMS, and other systems for broadcast and digital delivery of audio
- Superb organizational skills, attention to detail, and time-management
- Joy in working in a group environment, and the ability to give and take direction and feedback well.
Additional Information This is a full-time temporary non-exempt role with a salary range of $88,000-$95,000 annualized) with eligibility for medical, dental and vision insurance through SAG-AFTRA. package).
This role is based in New York City and is expected to work onsite at NYPR’s SoHo headquarters at least 2 days per week. This is a temporary position scheduled to run through June 30, 2027. This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement between New York Public Radio and SAG-AFTRA.
