About the Role

Preferred Mortgage Services, LLC (PMSI) is seeking an experienced SQL / ETL Developer to join our data engineering and automation team in Henderson, Nevada. This role supports high-impact, production-grade financial data systems that power large-scale reporting, automation, reconciliation, and decision-making for enterprise clients.

The SQL / ETL Developer will play a key role in designing, developing, and optimizing SQL-based data solutions and ETL processes, improving data pipelines, and ensuring data accuracy, performance, reliability, and scalability across multiple systems. The ideal candidate is a strong hands-on SQL developer who is comfortable working with complex and large-volume datasets, tracing existing business logic and data lineage, and translating business requirements into reliable technical solutions.

Responsibilities

SQL & Database Development

- Design, develop, test, and optimize complex T-SQL queries, stored procedures, views, functions, and database objects.

- Develop scalable database solutions supporting financial reporting, operational processing, reconciliation, and analytics.

- Analyze and enhance existing and legacy SQL code, including tracing business logic, calculations, dependencies, and data lineage.

- Troubleshoot complex database and production data issues and implement sustainable solutions.

ETL & Data Integration

- Design, build, maintain, and optimize ETL processes and data pipelines across multiple systems and data sources.

- Develop complex data transformation and integration routines for large-volume financial and operational datasets.

- Monitor and troubleshoot ETL workflows, identifying failures, data-quality issues, and performance bottlenecks.

- Support data movement, validation, reconciliation, and consistency across source and downstream systems.

- Improve ETL processes for performance, reliability, scalability, and maintainability.

Performance Optimization & Data Quality

- Perform query tuning, execution-plan analysis, indexing, and SQL Server performance optimization.

- Identify opportunities to reduce processing times and improve the performance of mission-critical data workflows.

- Develop and support data validation, reconciliation, and QA processes.

- Investigate data discrepancies, perform root-cause analysis, and implement controls to improve accuracy and reliability.

Automation & AI-Assisted Development

- Develop and enhance automated workflows that reduce manual processing and improve operational efficiency.

- Use AI-assisted development tools and coding agents to support SQL development, code analysis, documentation, testing, troubleshooting, and development productivity.

- Review, validate, test, and refine AI-generated code before implementation in production environments.

- Identify appropriate opportunities to incorporate AI-assisted development into existing engineering workflows while maintaining established standards for security, accuracy, testing, and code quality.

- Utilize C#, Python, PowerShell, or other scripting/programming technologies as appropriate to support automation and data-processing initiatives.

Business & Technical Collaboration

- Partner with Business Analysts, Operations, developers, and system architects to understand requirements and translate business rules into technical solutions.

- Work with analysts to understand data sources, calculations, dependencies, and downstream reporting requirements.

- Participate in solution design, technical reviews, testing, and implementation of new features and process improvements.

- Create and maintain technical documentation for SQL code, ETL processes, data flows, and automated solutions.

Job Skill Requirements

- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft SQL Server and T-SQL, including complex queries, stored procedures, views, functions, and relational database design.

- Strong hands-on ETL development skills, including designing, building, maintaining, and troubleshooting data extraction, transformation, and integration processes.

- Strong knowledge of query optimization, execution plans, indexing strategies, and SQL Server performance tuning.

- Experience working with large, complex datasets and integrating data from multiple systems and sources.

- Ability to analyze existing and legacy SQL code to identify business logic, calculations, dependencies, and data lineage.

- Strong understanding of data validation, reconciliation, data quality, and QA methodologies.

- Experience developing or supporting automated data and operational workflows.

- Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools and coding agents, including the ability to review, test, troubleshoot, and refine AI-generated code.

- Working knowledge of C#, Python, PowerShell, or similar programming/scripting technologies preferred.

- Familiarity with AWS technologies, including S3, Lambda, or RDS, preferred.

- Familiarity with MongoDB or other NoSQL technologies preferred.

- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to independently investigate complex technical and data issues.

- Ability to translate business requirements and business rules into technical solutions.

- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with developers, Business Analysts, Operations, and other stakeholders.

- Strong attention to detail with an emphasis on data accuracy, reliability, maintainability, and production-quality development.

Education and Experience

Required

- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, Software Engineering, Engineering, or a closely related technical field; equivalent combination of relevant education and professional experience may be considered.

- 7+ years of professional experience in SQL development, ETL development, data engineering, database development, or a closely related technical role.

- Demonstrated professional experience developing complex solutions using Microsoft SQL Server and T-SQL.

- Demonstrated hands-on experience designing, developing, maintaining, and troubleshooting ETL processes and data integration workflows.

- Experience working with large-volume or complex datasets in production environments.

- Experience with SQL performance tuning, query optimization, indexing, and troubleshooting production database or data-processing issues.

- Experience working collaboratively with technical and business teams to translate requirements into production solutions.

Preferred

- Experience in mortgage servicing, financial services, banking, fintech, or another highly data-intensive or regulated environment.

- Experience with C#, Python, PowerShell, or comparable programming/scripting technologies.

- Experience with AWS, particularly S3, Lambda, RDS, or related data services.

- Experience with MongoDB or other NoSQL databases.

- Experience using AI-assisted coding tools or development agents as part of a professional software or data-development workflow.

- Experience developing automated financial reporting, reconciliation, data-validation, or operational processing solutions.

- Experience working with legacy or highly complex database environments where data lineage and business logic must be investigated and documented.

Work Environment

- Henderson, Nevada office.

- Current expectation is onsite Monday through Thursday, with Friday remote.

- Initial work schedule is expected to be approximately 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.; schedule may be adjusted based on business needs.

- This position requires close collaboration with the development, business analyst, and operations teams.
