Primary Function:
Long Wave Inc. is seeking a Reliability and Maintainability (R&M) Engineer to support Product Support for Department of Defense (DoD) programs. This position will perform reliability, maintainability, and availability analyses to ensure system designs meet contractual performance requirements and can be effectively operated, maintained, and sustained throughout the system lifecycle.
The R&M Engineer will work closely with Systems Engineering, Hardware Engineering, Software Engineering, Integration and Test, Logistics, Technical Publications, suppliers, and customers to develop R&M requirements, conduct engineering analyses, influence system design, and support verification of R&M performance.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Perform Reliability and Maintainability (R&M) engineering analyses to support system design, integration, verification, and sustainment.
- Assist in the allocation, derivation, and tracking of reliability, maintainability, and availability (RMA) requirements to ensure traceability to system-level specifications.
- Develop and maintain reliability predictions and analyses, including Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF), Mean Time To Repair (MTTR), failure rates, and availability.
- Develop and maintain Failure Modes, Effects, and Criticality Analyses (FMECA) to identify potential failure modes and system impacts.
- Perform maintainability and testability analyses to evaluate maintenance accessibility, Built-In-Test (BIT) effectiveness, fault isolation capabilities, tools, and support equipment.
- Support Failure Reporting, Analysis, and Corrective Action System (FRACAS) processes by tracking failures, participating in data collection, and helping to identify root causes.
- Evaluate system designs and engineering changes for potential impacts to reliability, maintainability, availability, testability, and lifecycle support requirements.
- Work with Engineering functions to incorporate R&M considerations into system architecture, design decisions, interfaces, and technical requirements.
- Support technical reviews, customer reviews, design reviews, risk assessments, and other program milestone activities.
- Support Basis of Estimate (BOE) development, schedules, proposal activities, and planning for R&M engineering scope.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Work Conditions:
Employee will be working within an office environment. Employee may be expected to travel on occasion to locations where specific PPE or attire is necessary.
Job Requirements:
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 3+ years of professional experience in Reliability and Maintainability engineering, systems engineering, specialty engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- Experience performing reliability, maintainability, availability, or supportability analysis for complex systems or equipment.
- Working knowledge of R&M analyses and metrics including MTBF, MTTR, failure rates, availability, and FMEA/FMECA.
- Strong analytical, written, verbal, and problem-solving skills.
- US Citizenship and eligibility for a DoD Security Clearance is required.
Preferred Requirements:
- Experience supporting DoD aerospace, aviation, training systems, or other complex defense programs.
- Experience developing and executing R&M verification plans or demonstrations.
- Familiarity with Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM), Maintenance Task Analysis (MTA), Level of Repair Analysis (LORA), and Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) processes.
- Experience with industry-standard R&M software tools (e.g., PTC Windchill/Relex, ReliaSoft) or familiarity with MIL-HDBK-217 and MIL-HDBK-470.
- Experience evaluating supplier R&M analyses and technical data.
- Familiarity with Earned Value Management (EVM), Basis of Estimate (BOE) development, and schedule-driven DoD programs.
- Active DoD Secret clearance or higher is preferred.

- This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.
