About this role

- Hybrid role based in Melbourne

Welcome to Primary Connect

Primary Connect is the most extensive food and retail supply chain network in Australia and New Zealand. Our 10,000-strong team are an essential part of the expansive Woolworths Group, which encompasses Woolworths Supermarkets and Metro stores, BIG W, Countdown NZ, Quantium, and more. With us, your possibilities are not limited to a single opportunity.

We’re delivering to more than 3,000 retail stores every day (stores like Woolworths, BIG W, Dan Murphy’s, and BWS), but at Primary Connect, we’re more than just a supply chain business. We’re a big team, but every individual plays a pivotal role and leaves a distinctive impact.

Our extensive reach opens up boundless opportunities for learning, growth, and professional development. By raising your hand, fostering relationships, and seizing the moment, you can take control of your own unique path.

What you’ll do

- Lead, coach and develop a team of three VIC Pallet Control Officers, building their capability and confidence through hands-on training and meaningful development
- Drive full account compliance across all physical and transactional Unit Load Devices (ULDs) — pallets, crates, and other equipment in 2IC pallet control software, overseeing daily, weekly and monthly reconciliations between DCs, vendors and carriers
- Own ULD stocktakes end to end, from coordination and execution through to variance investigation and resolution
- Analyse equipment data to identify trends, reduce CHEP/Loscam hire charges and minimise pallet loss, reporting through monthly 2IC health reviews and approving hire and transport invoices
- Partner with Transport, DC Operations, pooling suppliers and carriers to resolve complex exceptions, prevent equipment shortages and embed permanent fixes for recurring transaction errors

What you’ll do experience

Everything we do is driven by a culture of care for our team, customers, and community.

- We create a thriving team experience through a culture of belonging that champions safety and wellbeing for our people and partners.
- We are invested in your success, offering structured career progression and mentorship to help you achieve your professional goals.
- We offer an opportunity to master the latest in AI and emerging technologies through our dedicated training and development programs.
- We offer a hybrid option available after two months (three days in the office, two days from home) and flexible hours of eight hours per day between 6 AM and 6 PM

A range of programs to help you prioritise and manage your well-being, including a competitive leave policy and 24/7 access to the Sonder app.

What you’ll bring

- Experience in a people leadership role, ideally building a team's technical capability from the ground up
- Proven experience in a ULD or pallet control role, with a deep understanding of CHEP/Loscam hire fundamentals and how equipment movements drive cost and exposure
- Strong working knowledge of 2IC
- A coaching-led leadership style: you're patient, practical and invested in growing people's skills and confidence, not just managing their output
- Experience designing and delivering training, setting clear KPIs and holding people accountable, including managing performance conversations when needed
- A sharp analytical mindset and the ability to explain complex financial and equipment data in plain language to stakeholders at every level
- Confidence building strong relationships across DCs, transport and external partners, with a willingness to travel to sites as required
