The Sr Originator III, Natural Gas is responsible for origination, structuring, negotiation, and execution of new business activities and long-term physical and financial natural gas transactions. This position requires a detailed understanding of upstream, midstream, and downstream markets, including pipelines, transportation, storage, processing, gathering, power generation, producers, and end users. The role will develop external relationships with counterparties and infrastructure companies, identify opportunities that leverage the Phillips 66 asset-backed trading model, and create value for Natural Gas Trading and Phillips 66.

What You’ll Do

- Originate, develop, structure, value, negotiate, and execute strategic physical and financial natural gas transactions and customer contracts

- Build and maintain relationships with producers, end users, pipelines, storage providers, infrastructure companies, and other market participants to expand opportunities and markets

- Identify and optimize opportunities across transportation, storage, gathering, processing, power generation, and other owned, leased, or third-party infrastructure

- Develop new business opportunities and structures that enhance asset value, manage basis and market exposure, and capitalize on regional and temporal arbitrage opportunities

- Partner with Trading, Legal, Credit, Risk, Accounting, Tax, Operations, and other functional teams to move transactions through the full front-to-back process and secure required approvals

- Perform pricing, valuation, cash flow, return, scenario, risk, credit, and strategic analyses for new business opportunities and infrastructure investments

- Evaluate market intelligence from consultants, brokers, counterparties, and industry participants and incorporate relevant insights into business development and transaction strategies

- Lead counterparty onboarding, documentation, transaction governance, and compliance, including appropriate structuring of term sheets, confirmations, contracts, and related agreements

- Communicate risk-versus-reward recommendations clearly to senior management and develop and mentor colleagues across the enterprise

What You’ll Bring – Required

- Legally authorized to work in the United States

- Bachelor’s degree or higher in business, finance, economics, engineering, or a related field

- 10 or more years of commercial experience in natural gas or other commodities, including origination, structuring, trading, contract negotiation, business development, project finance, or project management

- 5 or more years of experience in natural gas, G&P, LNG, or related energy markets, with demonstrated experience in physical and/or financial transactions

- Demonstrated experience evaluating and managing transaction risk, counterparty credit, market exposure, and/or supply chain and infrastructure commitments

- Willing and able to travel on an as-needed basis, up to 50%

What Makes You Stand Out – Preferred

- 10 or more years of experience in natural gas origination, structured transactions, commodities, G&P, LNG, or related energy markets

- Experience with Gulf Coast, Midcontinent, and/or DJ natural gas markets; pipelines, transportation, storage, gathering, processing, compression, or power generation assets

- Track record of originating, negotiating, and executing complex long-term transactions, including transport agreements, asset management agreements, storage agreements, VPPs, structured supply, hedging, or infrastructure-related transactions

- Experience building or expanding a natural gas origination or trading business, developing customer and infrastructure relationships, and deploying risk capital in partnership with Trading

- Strong financial analysis and structuring capabilities, including pricing, valuation, cash flow, scenario analysis, risk-versus-reward assessment, and forward planning

Compensation Range

This position has a base salary range of $198,000 – $242,000. This role is eligible to participate in the company’s commercial bonus program, offering the opportunity to earn additional compensation based on business and individual performance, in accordance with program guidelines.

The Commercial organization works to effectively leverage assets and market knowledge to create additional value within the risk parameters of the Company. We do this by maximizing general interest profitability, enhancing return on capital employed by successfully partnering with the Refining, Transportation and Marketing functions to ensure Value Chain Integration. Our truck and rail fleets support our feedstock and distribution operations. Rail movements are provided via a fleet of more than 10,000 owned and leased rail cars. Truck movements are provided through numerous third-party trucking companies, as well as through our 100 percent-owned subsidiary, Sentinel Transportation LLC.
