About this role
The Street Construction EH&S Project Specialist ensures that construction operations align with the companys environmental, health, and safety (EH&S) standards and comply with all relevant regulations. Acting as a subject matter advisor, the specialist serves as a liaison between EH&S departments and operational teams, develops and implements EH&S programs and training, and mentors senior specialists and inspectors.
Required Education/Experience
- Associate's Degree and a minimum of 5 years of full time relevant work experience or
- Bachelor's Degree and a minimum of 3 years of full time relevant work experience or
- Master's Degree and a minimum of 2 years of full time relevant work experience
Preferred Education/Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Safety, engineering, physical science, or biological science and a minimum of 3 years of full time relevant work experience or
- Master's Degree in Safety, engineering, physical science, or biological science and a minimum of 2 years of full time relevant work experience
Relevant Work Experience
- Strong working knowledge of Federal, State and Local EH&S Regulations for environmental, health and safety concerns (including but not limited to asbestos, lead, natural resources, water discharge management, oil management, hazardous waste, remediation issues, excavations, confined space), required.
- Highly motivated and committed to delivering excellence in the area of EH&S and must recognize the critical importance of teamwork, required.
Skills and Abilities
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint, etc.
- Well organized, detail oriented and flexible to handle multiple assignments
Licenses and Certifications
- Driver's License Required
Physical Demands
- Ability to respond to system emergencies
- Able to work in all weather conditions, i.e. excessive heat and/or cold
- Ability to work in adverse conditions that include, noise, confined spaces, and high elevations
- Ability to be approved to wear and use either a full or half-face respirator, without facial hair or other conditions that may interfere with the seal, in accordance with OSHA regulations
- Stand, walk, lift, climb, bend, kneel, stoop, and/or reach for the duration of the workday
- Ability to travel to company locations to work on storm restoration and heat contingencies
- Wear necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), i.e. fire-retardant clothing and safety harnesses
Additional Physical Demands
- The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
