About this role

Big-D Mission Critical is looking for an experienced Electrical Project Manager. The Electrical Project Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating, and managing all electrical aspects of complex data center construction projects from preconstruction through commissioning and final turnover. This individual partners closely with owners, engineers, commissioning teams, subcontractors, and field leadership to ensure electrical systems are installed safely, meet quality requirements, remain on schedule, and are delivered within budget.

This position can be based in Salt Lake City, UT, Reno, NV or in a traveling role.

Project Management

- Lead all electrical scope execution on hyperscale and enterprise data center projects.

- Manage electrical budgets, schedules, procurement activities, and forecasting efforts.

- Coordinate electrical construction activities with project teams, field operations, design consultants, and trade partners.

- Monitor progress against milestones and proactively identify project risks and mitigation strategies.

- Manage electrical subcontractors, suppliers, and equipment manufacturers throughout project execution.

- Provide regular updates to project leadership regarding schedule, cost, procurement, and commissioning status.

Electrical Systems Oversight

- Oversee installation and coordination of:

Medium-voltage utility service

- Substations and transformers

- Switchgear and switchboards

- Generator systems

- UPS systems

- Power distribution units (PDUs)

- Busway systems

- Transfer switches

- Grounding and bonding systems

- Security and access control infrastructure

- Fire alarm systems

- Building automation interfaces

- Lighting and controls

- Mission-critical branch circuits

- Ensure installations meet project specifications, code requirements, and owner standards.

- Coordinate electrical activities with mechanical, structural, civil, and commissioning teams.

Commissioning and Integrated Systems Testing

- Support startup, pre-functional testing, and functional testing activities.

- Partner with commissioning agents and owners during integrated systems testing (IST).

- Manage resolution of electrical commissioning deficiencies and punch list items.

- Ensure completion of startup documentation, turnover packages, and O&M manuals.

- Coordinate training activities for facility operations personnel.

- Support final owner acceptance and project closeout.

Procurement and Equipment Management

- Manage acquisition and delivery of critical equipment including:

Generators

- Switchgear

- Transformers

- UPS systems

- Bus ducts

- ATS equipment

- Protection and control systems

- Monitor manufacturing schedules and supply chain risks.

- Coordinate factory witness testing and equipment inspections.

- Ensure timely delivery and storage of equipment to support construction schedules.

Safety and Quality

- Champion a safety-first culture across all project activities.

- Ensure compliance with company, client, and regulatory safety requirements.

- Participate in safety audits and subcontractor accountability programs.

- Lead electrical quality assurance and quality control efforts.

- Verify installations comply with project standards, commissioning requirements, and manufacturer recommendations.

- Support root cause analysis and corrective action initiatives when required.

Required Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, Engineering Technology, or related field preferred.

- 7+ years of mechanical construction project management experience.

- 3+ years of experience supporting mission-critical or data center construction projects.

- Strong understanding of large-scale HVAC and mechanical systems.

- Experience managing mechanical subcontractors and vendors.

- Demonstrated success delivering projects exceeding $50M in construction value.

- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents.

- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Bluebeam, Procore, Autodesk Construction Cloud, and scheduling software.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience on hyperscale data center projects.

- Mechanical engineering background.

- LEED Accreditation.

- Certified Construction Manager (CCM).

- PMP Certification.

- Experience working with mission critical clients.

- Knowledge of commissioning and integrated systems testing processes.
