About this role

Tesla operates a rapidly expanding global network of 85,000+ Superchargers. Originally built for passenger vehicles, the network is now expanding to support Semi and Robotaxi as well, each with distinct planning requirements. The Charging Analytics team ensures this growth happens deliberately, putting the right-sized sites in the right locations at the right time.
Our team builds and runs an internal analytics platform made up of web applications, dashboards, data pipelines, and lightweight services that project developers, deployment and construction managers, regional managers, operations teams, and central leadership rely on daily. We're looking for a Software Engineer based in Palo Alto to make that platform faster, easier to use, and more dependable, and to serve as the first point of contact for our US stakeholders.

This is both a product and engineering role. You'll spend most of your time meeting with platform users, building new features, and improving performance. You'll work with a small team to decide what's worth building, ship fast, and iterate based on real usage and feedback. We value the ability to optimize and own projects, along with the eagerness to continually learn, including fluency with AI-assisted tools.

- Meet regularly with stakeholders across the business, from field deployment teams to senior leaders, to understand how they work, turn ambiguous requests into clearly scoped features, and weigh competing priorities against effort and impact
- Own new features end to end, designing, building, launching, and iterating on web applications, dashboards, and data pipelines that make the platform easier to use and more reliable
- Identify and fix performance bottlenecks across the stack, from slow SQL queries and data pipelines to API response times and page load speed
- Contribute to architecture decisions by proposing, evaluating and implementing design choices with the platform team and your manager
- Serve as the first point of contact for US-based stakeholders on questions, bug reports, access requests, and new ideas, and resolve or route them quickly
- Triage and fix issues when something breaks, identify root causes, and improve monitoring to catch similar issues earlier in the future

- Degree in computer science, a technical or quantitative field, or equivalent experience
- Demonstrated ownership of a product or tool that real users adopted, from problem definition through launch, iteration, and ongoing maintenance
- Strong programming fundamentals and working proficiency in Python, with experience building web applications end to end: backend services and REST APIs plus a modern frontend (React and TypeScript preferred)
- Strong SQL skills, including query performance tuning on large datasets; experience with Postgres, schema migrations, or workflow orchestration (e.g., Airflow) is a plus
- Working familiarity with containers, CI/CD pipelines, and monitoring tools; Kubernetes experience is a plus
- A track record of quickly picking up unfamiliar technical skills, including hands-on experience with AI-assisted development tools and sound judgment on when to use them
