Job Description:
The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) employs nearly 2,300 team members operating institutions statewide, which house approximately 5,800 inmates. The department's focus includes inmate programming and education, physical and behavioral health care, re-entry services, and community programs, and is accredited by the American Correctional Association (ACA). This is an at-will position. Compensation is commensurate with experience.
Essential Duties
- Directs and oversees all clinical and operational pharmacy services within NDCS institutions statewide.
- Assists in the continuation and expansion of a Medication for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD) program, from clinical protocol design through implementation and staff training.
- Ensures DEA compliance and controlled substance security, recordkeeping, and diversion prevention across all facilities.
- Manages the agency's 340B drug pricing program.
- Chairs the Pharmacy & Therapeutics (P&T) Committee, including formulary development and maintenance.
- Develops clinical reference tools and protocols for nursing and medical staff (e.g., drug information resources, IV compounding/administration guidance appropriate to a non-USP 797 compounding environment).
- Serves as a resource to institution medical and nursing staff on drug information, medication safety, and treatment protocols.
- Provides necessary in-service education and training to healthcare staff across the agency.
- Supervises pharmacy staff.
- Represents pharmacy services on relevant agency committees and in policy development.
Requirements/Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited school of pharmacy.
- Active, unrestricted license (or eligibility for licensure/reciprocity) to practice pharmacy in the State of Nebraska.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Completion of an ASHP-accredited pharmacy residency and/or board certification (e.g., BCPP).
- Experience in correctional, institutional, or public-sector pharmacy leadership.
- Experience developing or managing medication for opioid use disorder (MOUD) or other substance use treatment programs.
- Experience with 340B program management, P&T committee leadership, or formulary management.
- Eligibility for DEA registration.
- Demonstrated leadership or management experience in a pharmacy setting.
Other : Proof of licensure and transcripts required prior to scheduled interview. Successful completion of background check. Applicants accepting a job offer must pass the following pre-employment exams in this order: medical exam, and at a randomly announced time, pass a drug test. Must successfully complete the fully paid NE Corrections Training Program.
