Job Summary
The Cloud Database Engineer is responsible for supporting a large, mission-critical healthcare application known as WaveMark Solutions. This role will own production and non-production reliability and uptime, performance, security, automation of routine maintenance tasks and deployments, and backup and disaster recovery strategies for cloud databases. You will be working closely with software development and IT teams driving automation, observability, resilience, and continuous delivery practices.
Location: This is a remote position, and candidates must be located within the United States.
Responsibilities
- Administer Oracle (primary), MySQL, and PostgreSQL databases in managed cloud environments.
- Build and manage intelligent monitoring, auditing, logging, and alerting systems to proactively track database health.
- Establish and maintain operational standards, documentation, and runbooks.
- Support application deployments and database releases.
- Analyze and optimize database performance across production and non-production environments.
- Perform root cause analysis of performance incidents.
- Design, execute, and automate database refresh processes between production and non-production environments.
- Design and implement repeatable data masking processes for non-production environments.
- Collaborate with security, compliance, and application teams to support regulatory audits.
- Partner with security teams to enhance and enforce data governance, patching, secret management, and access controls.
- Partner with software development teams to modernize deployment automation and collaborate on modern data movement architectures.
- Design and test backup, restore, replication, and failure strategies to meet business recovery time and recovery point objectives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in related field, or equivalent work experience, preferred.
- 5+ years of experience managing production Oracle databases in a regulated healthcare environment preferred.
- Experience of Oracle database administration and cloud database platforms such as AWS RDS or GCP preferred.
- Knowledge of database automation, scripting, and deployment processes preferred.
- Familiarity implementing observability frameworks and telemetry-driven operations preferred.
- Knowledge of site reliability engineering principles (SLIs, SLOs, error budgets, and automated remediation) preferred.
- Working knowledge of CI/CD platforms and Infrastructure as Code preferred.
- Understanding of healthcare compliance standards, such as HIPAA, FedRAMP, or HITRUST preferred.
- Familiarity with change data capture (CDC) technologies preferred.
- Experience supporting databases and applications in Kubernetes-based environments preferred.
- Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills preferred.
Anticipated salary range: $96,300 - $137,600
