About the Role
We are seeking a compassionate, highly organized Neurosurgery Registered Nurse (RN) to join our outpatient Neurosurgery team. This position plays a vital role in coordinating the patient surgical journey, serving as the primary clinical resource for pre-admission preparation, surgery scheduling, patient education, and care coordination.
The ideal candidate would have experience with pre-operative and perioperative patient care preferably in a neurosurgical setting.
Essential Responsibilities
- Coordinate and schedule neurosurgical procedures, collaborating with surgeons, hospitals, surgery centers, anesthesia teams, and ancillary departments.
- Conduct pre-admission assessments and review patient histories, medications, allergies, and diagnostic testing requirements.
- Ensure completion of all surgical clearances, authorizations, consents, and required documentation prior to surgery.
- Educate patients and families regarding surgical procedures, pre-operative instructions, post-operative expectations, and recovery planning.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for patients throughout the surgical scheduling and preparation process.
- Coordinate pre-operative testing, imaging, laboratory work, and specialty consultations.
- Triage patient phone calls and clinical questions related to upcoming surgical procedures.
- Collaborate with providers, clinical staff, and external facilities to ensure timely and accurate surgical planning.
- Maintain accurate documentation within the electronic health record (EHR).
- Monitor schedules and proactively address delays, cancellations, and changes to optimize patient access and operating room utilization.
Qualifications:
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice.
- Minimum of 1 years of clinical nursing experience, previous scheduling experience preferred
- Prefer strong understanding of pre-operative and perioperative patient care.
- Excellent communication, customer service, and organizational skills.
