About this role
The Mechanical Superintendent is responsible for supervising installation of mechanical scopes at Gigafactory Texas — including process and facilities piping, HVAC, hydronic systems, and mechanical equipment — on aggressive schedules where speed and rigor both matter. You will work closely with project managers, engineers, commissioning, quality, EHS, and trade partners to plan and execute field work, remove constraints, and deliver systems that meet Tesla’s safety, quality, and operational requirements. A high percentage of your time will be in the field directing work, verifying quality, and solving problems before they become schedule hits.
- Plan and coordinate mechanical subcontractors and staff-aug crews against issued engineering, tools, equipment, and material availability
- Define installation sequences for piping (CW, MTCW, TCW, process, plumbing, and utilities), equipment set (chillers, towers, HX, pumps, tanks, RTU/MAU/RAH/CRAH and skids), supports, hangers, insulation, and preservation
- Own flush, clean, hydro, fill, and prep so systems are ready for commissioning and turnover
- Maintain daily and 3-week look-aheads, site logistics, and crew loading; direct the work, track changes, and drive constraint removal with owners and dates
- Hold IFC intent and quality: ITPs, hold points, weld/NDE awareness, redlines, QC/QA and safety inspections, and AHJ / Cx walkdowns
- Run the mechanical area safety culture (permits, LOTO, housekeeping) and manage construction equipment and temporary systems for safe execution
- Keep daily reports, photos, punchlists, delay/constraint logs, and turnover packages current, and sequence work with civil, structural, electrical, controls, and facilities
- 7+ years supervising mechanical construction on industrial, manufacturing, data center, mission-critical, or similar large-scale work
- Proven delivery of complex piping and equipment scopes on tight schedules, including staff-aug and multiple mechanical trade partners
- Able to read and manage changes to P&IDs, mechanical packages, isometrics, equipment arrangements, datasheets/tag lists, and specs for welding, supports, insulation, flushing, and hydrotest
- Working knowledge of hydronic systems (CW / MTCW / TCW or equivalent), rotating equipment, and HVAC install (chillers, towers, HX, pumps, data-hall / mission-critical preferred)
- Enforces Tesla EHS, OSHA, and site permit requirements; OSHA 30 or equivalent preferred
- Experience with ITPs, hold points, punch discipline, turnover readiness, and Cx interfaces (pre-functional checks, flush criteria, SAT/Cx)
- Clear written and verbal communication (RFIs, dailies, constraint asks); Microsoft Office and Bluebeam; Aconex, P6, or MS Project preferred; high percentage of time in the field
