About this role
High Impact Tutoring (HIT) is a critical strategy in our efforts to raise the mathematical achievement of all students. Our intervention tutors have the most important role in HIT, working directly with small groups of students to build up their foundational skills so that they are better positioned to access grade-level instruction in class.
You will:
- Lead 3-4 recurring small (3:1) tutoring groups in a classroom or pull-out space for 10- to 12-week terms
- Meet and plan with the math coach and teaching team to internalize lessons and analyze student data
- Collect, score, and record student assessment data on a daily basis
- Record student attendance on a daily basis
- Communicate issues with teachers and coach
Hours: up to 20 hrs/wk, each weekday except Wednesdays
- Tutors will run up to four 50-min sessions per day, one in each period of the day
- Each session is allotted 25 additional minutes of prep time, so that each session comprises 1.25 hours of work time
- The wage is $62.50 per session
Qualifications
You have:
- Excellent knowledge of Common Core math standards and their coherence from upper elementary to Algebra
- Confidence in facilitating instruction for small groups of students; may have previous tutoring experience.
- Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships with diverse students and families.
- Patience, persistence, and flexibility to explain key concepts in multiple ways
- Strong time and task management skills.
- Belief that positive academic mindsets motivate students to persist at schoolwork, which manifests itself through better academic behaviors, which lead to improved performance.
- Proficiency with Google-Suite and other online learning platforms and tools.
- Spanish language skills are a plus.
