About this role
THE MISSION
Nolla is building AI doctors so that top-quality healthcare is accessible to everyone. Nolla Derm is the #1 medical skincare treatment app in the U.S. App Store. We've treated thousands of acne patients in the U.S., scanned 1% of Norway's population for skin cancer, and our in-house clinical models are state of the art on clinical benchmarks. We just launched NollaMD, our urgent care app, and we're building dedicated specialty apps for conditions like birth control and allergies. We’ve raised $6.5M from General Catalyst and other strategic investors.
THE ROLE
This is a hands-on product design role. You'll be our first full-time designer, working as a design partner with our product team. You'll own the screens: taking briefs and rough directions to complete, polished flows across every app we ship, and building the rigorous component library that keeps them consistent as we launch new ones.
WHAT YOU'LL DESIGN
Patient Apps
- Deliver complete, production-ready screens and flows for Nolla Skin, NollaMD, and the specialty apps we launch next: from brief to high-fidelity UI, prototype, handoff, and design QA in the build
- Design intake, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up experiences where an AI clinician is doing the work and a patient needs to understand and trust the result
- Iterate on onboarding, paywall, and retention flows with the Head of Product and Head of Growth, using real usage data
Clinical AI Experiences
- Design how AI output is presented: confidence, uncertainty, abstention, and escalation to a human clinician, so patients get the right level of trust and never a false sense of certainty
- Turn clinical safety requirements into interfaces that feel simple rather than defensive
- Partner with engineering on the conversational and multimodal surfaces (photo capture, symptom description, chat) that our models depend on
Design System & Brand
- Own and maintain a rigorous component library in Figma: tokens, components, variants, documentation, and the conventions engineers build against
- Keep every app feeling like Nolla as we launch new ones, and make standing up a new specialty app a matter of weeks
- Apply the visual identity consistently across product, App Store, and launch materials
WHAT YOU BRING
- 3+ years of product design experience on shipped consumer or health apps, with at least one iOS app you can walk us through screen by screen
- A portfolio of complete, polished, shipped work: real flows end to end, not just hero screens or concepts
- Exceptional visual and interaction craft; you care about typography, spacing, motion, and the last 5% of polish, and it shows
- You've built or substantially maintained a component library and know what makes one hold up as a product grows
- You take a brief or a rough direction and come back with thorough, considered options, edge cases covered, ready to build
- You prototype in Figma well enough to test before an engineer writes a line
- Comfortable working shoulder to shoulder with engineers and QA-ing your own work in the build
- You thrive on fast iteration and direct feedback, and you ship every week
BONUS POINTS
- Designed for healthcare, clinical, or another regulated, high-stakes domain
- Designed AI-native products: chat, multimodal input, uncertainty, and human-in-the-loop review
- Built or maintained a design system used across several apps
- Ran your own user research program: recruiting, interviews, synthesis
TOOLS
Figma · FigJam · Prototyping (Figma, Play, or code) · iOS Human Interface Guidelines · Linear · Notion · PostHog · AI design and prototyping tools (Claude, v0, or similar)
