About this role
Description
The Power Systems Project Manager owns the full lifecycle of assigned power systems projects — from contract award through final closeout — for engagements centered on diesel and natural gas reciprocating engine-generator sets, paralleling switchgear, battery energy storage systems (BESS), uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), and supporting balance-of-plant systems. This role carries commercial and schedule accountability: budget, scope, schedule, quality, safety, and customer satisfaction. The Project Manager is the primary point of contact for the customer throughout execution and directs subcontractors, vendors, and internal resources (Engineering, Service, Parts) to deliver projects on time, on budget, and to specification. Deep technical fluency in the equipment is expected to manage trade partners and vet engineering decisions effectively — detailed design work itself is led by the Project Engineer.
Project Leadership & Execution
• Own the project lifecycle from award through closeout, including scope definition, scheduling, procurement coordination, installation, startup/commissioning, and punch-list resolution.
• Develop and maintain master project schedules accounting for equipment manufacturing lead times, mobilization, site logistics, and interdependent trade sequencing.
• Lead project kickoff, progress, and closeout meetings; produce and distribute status reporting to customers, leadership, and internal stakeholders.
• Direct and coordinate field startup and commissioning activities, ensuring alignment between engineering intent, installed systems, and customer expectations.
Commercial & Financial Management
• Manage project budgets and cost forecasts, tracking actuals against plan and protecting project margin.
• Prepare, negotiate, and process change orders, tracking cost and schedule impact through approval and closeout.
• Administer contracts, purchase orders, submittals, and RFIs, ensuring compliance with contract terms, warranty obligations, performance guarantees, and any liquidated damages provisions.
• Manage multiple concurrent projects across the division's territory, prioritizing resources according to schedule risk and customer impact.
Customer & Stakeholder Management
• Serve as the primary customer point of contact throughout project execution, building trust and managing expectations proactively.
• Coordinate cross-functionally with Sales, Engineering, Service, Parts, and OEM factory representatives to keep projects aligned and unblocked.
• Communicate technical and schedule issues to non-technical stakeholders clearly and proactively.
Subcontractor, Vendor & Field Management
• Select, direct, and manage subcontractors, including electrical contractors, riggers, controls integrators, and civil/concrete trades.
• Manage site logistics, laydown, and sequencing to keep multi-trade sites productive and safe.
• Coordinate permitting and inspection requirements with local Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs) as applicable.
Safety, Risk & Compliance
• Own project-level risk management: identify, document, and mitigate schedule, cost, and technical risks throughout execution.
• Ensure job-site safety compliance, including OSHA requirements and site-specific safety plans, for all internal and subcontracted personnel.
• Ensure quality control processes are followed and documented at each project milestone.
Requirements
WHAT YOU'LL NEED
• 8–15 years of project management experience in power generation, electrical infrastructure, or capital equipment/construction projects; direct experience with engine-generator, switchgear, BESS, or UPS systems strongly preferred.
• Bachelor's degree (Engineering, Construction Management, or Business) is preferred; an equivalent combination of experience and demonstrated project leadership will be considered in lieu of a degree.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license is not required for this role.
• Demonstrated track record managing project budgets, schedules, and scope for multi-million-dollar capital equipment or construction projects.
• Working technical fluency in diesel/natural gas reciprocating generator sets, paralleling switchgear, BESS, UPS, and balance-of-plant systems, sufficient to manage trade partners and evaluate engineering trade-offs (full design responsibility sits with the Project Engineer).
• Experience managing electrical/mechanical subcontractors, EPCs, and OEM factory resources.
• Understanding of contract structures, change order management, and risk/liability provisions (warranty terms, performance guarantees, liquidated damages).
• Proficiency with project scheduling tools (e.g., MS Project or equivalent), Microsoft Office/Excel, and CRM/ERP systems.
• Proven ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and customer relationships simultaneously.
• Strong leadership, negotiation, and conflict-resolution skills.
• Ability to travel 50%+ of the time, including overnight and multi-day site trips.

Physical Demands & Work Environment
• Ability to work in mechanical/electrical rooms, active construction sites, and outdoor environments across a range of weather conditions.
• Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (arc-flash rated clothing, hearing and eye protection) and work near energized equipment under established safety protocols.
• Ability to climb ladders/stairs, stand for extended periods, and access confined mechanical or electrical spaces as needed.
• Ability to lift/move equipment and materials up to 50 lbs. as required in a field environment.
