The Paddison lab in the Human Biology Division is looking for a reliable, organized, detail-oriented Lab Aide- Part Time to support the development, testing, and use of CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing libraries and technology in mammals. The position will use molecular, cellular, and functional genetic techniques on a daily basis with a significant focus in human stem cell biology. The position will contribute to establishing CRISPR-Cas9-based targeting systems at the Center.
This position is ideal for an individual who is seeking an entry-level introduction to a research lab environment, with an interest in gaining valuable research experience and technical skills. The candidate should have an interest in molecular biology, genetics and/or cancer biology, be able to follow written protocols and show attention to detail.
The candidate should be able to work between 10-16 hours per week; flexible hours within reason can be chosen after the initial training period. Longer engagement with greater involvement with the lab is also possible based on performance.
Responsibilities
Under close supervision of research technicians and the PI, our Lab Aide will:
- Prepare media and reagents, such as stock solutions.
- Rinse and prepare glassware for cleaning. Deliver glassware to storage areas.
- Maintain clean and orderly laboratory area.
- Clean and maintain lab equipment.
- May check and replenish supplies.
- May assist with experiments and set-up.
- Perform clerical duties as required.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School diploma or equivalent with an interest in the sciences.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Enrollment in a university program, with enrollment or planned enrollment in a science based degree preferred (e.g. biology, immunology, chemistry, or biochemistry).
- Previous or current coursework in biology and/or chemistry and past laboratory experience.
- Experience with molecular biology techniques is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated accuracy, attention to detail, and ability to learn new skills quickly.
The hourly pay range for this position is from $21.30 to $30.13 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
Although Fred Hutch is not sponsoring most H-1B visas at this time, candidates who already hold an H-1B sponsored by another organization and are currently in the U.S. may be eligible for this position.
