JOB TITLE: Electro-Mechanic

DEPARTMENT: Trolley Maintenance

REPORTS TO: Trolley Maintenance Foreman

PAY RATE: $30.86/hour

JOB FUNCTION:

The Electro-Mechanic performs skilled electrical and mechanical work to diagnose, maintain, repair, service, and inspect antique rail cars and equipment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Performs safety and preventative maintenance inspections of antique rail cars, systems, and equipment.
- Instructs other workers in the maintenance and repair of antique rail cars and related equipment and buildings.
- Operates a computer terminal to log work orders and parts maintenance.
- Repairs lighting, heating, brakes, and related systems.
- Performs electronic fabrication and assembly tasks such as soldering and repair of electrical wiring.
- Performs maintenance, repair, troubleshooting, rebuilding, and overhauling on all parts of antique rail cars.
- Performs work on DC electrical systems.
- Performs re-railing of derailed antique rail cars.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Uses test and shop equipment/tools.
- Picks up parts from supply warehouses and stores.
- Assumes additional responsibilities as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

High school diploma or GED required.

Other:

•           Minimum 3 years' experience in the maintenance and repair of electrically powered rail transit vehicles or has successfully completed trade school for such training.

•           Possesses standard mechanical hand tools and is experienced in the use of tools to perform mechanical and electrical work.

•           Must possess a valid driver's license; possess knowledge of personal computer operations.

•           Must be knowledgeable of the operating principles of analog and digital electronics, electrical control circuitry, and associated mechanical systems.

•           Must be able to read and understand maintenance manuals; prepare work cards and orders for rail car repairs.

•           Must be able to give oral and written instructions.

•           Must be willing to comply with the company's Drug and Alcohol Policy.

•           Regular and consistent attendance is required.

•           Must always comply with established safety protocols.

Environment:

•           Extensive walking and standing during a normal business day.

•           Must be able to lift a maximum of 50 pounds and lift parts and materials overhead.

•           Requires ability to withstand exposure to weather conditions; dust, engine fumes, extreme noise levels, and areas powered by high-voltage electricity.

•           Must be able to crawl or stoop into tight areas and lie horizontally under a rail car.

•           Must be able to climb and work on top of 13-foot-high trolleys.

•           Requires ability to hear directions given and troubleshoot repairs, and to visually perform essential functions for satisfactory job performance.
