Join Our Team as a Dedicated Forensic Intern!

Responsible for assisting (Dedicated Forensic Interview) DFI department with the coordination of administrative DFI services, including data entry and scheduling. Helps DFI with quality assurance measures related to court documents, reports, and other programmatic forms.  Ensures excellent customer service to internal and external partners. This position will also work with DFI supervisor and coordinator on shadowing in-person forensic interviews in appropriate settings.

This is a non-paid Intern position.

Essential Functions:

- Assists with scheduling and maintaining forensic interview calendars for all of the forensic interviewers and detectives who work at Childhelp, which includes DFIs from Phoenix Childrens Hospital, contracted DFIs, Phoenix PD, and DFIs located at other child advocacy centers

- Reviews and shadows DFI requests.

- Shadow and assist with emergent cases by coordinating with the DFI team and law enforcement on the most appropriate course of action to ensure the highest level of service delivery

- Ensures complete and accurate data across the DFI calendars, Electronic Medical Records (EHR), and submitted forensic interview sheets

- Responds to requests from internal and external agencies for data collection and current or historical case information, as appropriate

- Assists internal and external partners with obtaining copies of forensic interview disks and reports, as appropriate

- Develops and maintains professional and collaborative relationships with numerous internal and external agencies/partners including, but not limited to, local, state, federal, and tribal law enforcement agencies, Department of Child Safety (DCS), Office of Child Welfare Investigations (OCWI), statewide county attorneys offices, Attorney Generals Office (AGO), Phoenix Childrens Hospital Child Protection Team, and any other entity involved in the investigation of child abuse/maltreatment

- Works with the DFI coordinator on assisting DFI team to obtain all necessary case information prior to the forensic interview, which also includes participation in briefings with law enforcement for emergency cases.

- Meets with members of the Phoenix Police Departments Crimes Against Children Unit to maintain and foster relationships that promote effective and collaborative communication

- Assist coordinator in scheduling and set-up of DFI peer review, article review, and other collaborative meetings

- Manages documents in the electronic DFI shared folder

- Helps perform quality assurance measures for the DFI team including the timely submission of documentation and reports; ensuring consent forms are complete and uploaded in the EMR

- Prepares routine and individualized correspondence, including letters and emails, to internal and external partners such law enforcement, prosecutors, defense attorneys, OCWI, DCS, DFIs, other advocacy centers, etc

- Sets up and prepares for trainings and meetings related to the DFI team and MDT partners

- Monitors/maintains supplies needed for the interview rooms, monitor rooms, and the DFI team, to effectively perform daily functions

Center Support

- Provides coverage support for playroom as needed and requested by Program Operations Manager or Center Director

- Serves as back up for front desk receptionist, including covering for daily breaks as well as planned and unplanned absences

- Performs other related duties, as assigned by the DFI Supervisor and Center Director

Requirements

Education/Experience/Knowledge/Understanding

- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)

- Minimum one year of previous related experience

- Bilingual preferred, but not required

- Must be 18 years of age

- Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card
