Dewberry is seeking a seasonal Transportation Construction Inspector Trainee (TA-1 and TA-2) to support multiple clients within Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. This is an entry-level position with great growth potential for individuals who enjoy being outside on road and bridge construction projects. Must have the ability to communicate effectively, pay attention to details, and can develop great documentation skills.
The Transportation Construction Inspector Trainee (TA) will be responsible for ensuring contractors’ compliance through reviewing, interpreting, and enforcing plans and contract documents for efficient and timely inspection of the contractor’s work and additional duties listed below.

Responsibilities
- Plan, coordinate, inspect, and oversee project inspection activities of roadway, structure, and bridge projects
- Monitor contractors and schedules to ensure quality control and contract compliance of moderate to complex construction projects.
- Apply knowledge and experience toward the inspection of roadways and bridges using PennDOT standards, specifications, and procedures.
- Apply engineering principles in the inspection and documentation of construction activities.
- Recommend changes to construction plans to meet field conditions or provide cost savings.
- Maintains and reviews comprehensive project records including daily diaries, materials notebooks, as-built plans, pay quantity records, progress schedules, work orders, and monthly estimates.
- Complete testing of materials using PennDOT testing procedures
- Communicate with various stakeholders, including Localities and PennDOT
- Assist with the development of change orders.
- Advises contractors of violations and reviews and recommends approval of corrective measures
- Identifies necessary changes to construction plans to meet field conditions
- Successful candidates will be authorized to obtain all PennDOT inspection and materials testing certifications. Costs for obtaining these certifications will be reimbursed to the employee.
Required Skills & Required Experience
- High school graduate or GED equivalent is required.
- Basic computer skills to use an electronic tablet and computer for reviewing construction. drawings/specifications and completing project documentation are required.
- Driving is a requirement of the position. A clean driving record is required.
- Previous construction experience preferred.
- Must be able and willing to work day and night shifts and extended working hours as needed.
- Ability to repetitively stoop, bend at the knees and waist, squat and lift 25 lbs; includes body weight, equipment, tools and boxes, in addition to ability to stand for long periods of time on varied surfaces.
- Physically able to work outdoors in all weather conditions and terrains.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
