About this role

$110,000 per year | Part-time

In this role you will be responsible for evaluating acute and chronic mental health conditions, prescribing psychotropic medications, managing crisis intervention, and contributing to suicide prevention and behavioral health programming within the facility. Follows established clinical standards, procedures, and practices and give specific patient care direction to nursing and other staff in compliance with MTC Medical, and customer directives

Education and Experience Requirements: What you will do

- Follow established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.

- Provide direct patient care, evaluate outcomes, consult with specialists as required and adjust treatment processes as indicated to ensure optimal patient care.

- Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations.

- Monitor psychiatric condition of patients and report and document changes appropriate to scope of practice.

- Diagnose and treat patients appropriately, exercising independent judgment, initiating an effective course of action.

- Prescribe and manage psychotropic medications in accordance with state law and facility formulary.

- Perform daily information rounds and prepare notes on detainees assigned to psychiatric medical housing.

- Order diagnostic and therapeutic services and assess efficiency, documenting results and making needed changes.

- Consult with facility physicians in a collaborative and cooperative relationship.

- Ensure documentation supports medical necessity and formulary compliance.

- Maintain accurate and comprehensive charting on patient medical records.

- Enhance professional development through participation in educational programs, in-service and workshops.

- Participate in peer review processes.

- Attend scheduled staff meetings; promote communications and proper flow of relevant information between medical staff.

- Utilize established corporate, facility and corrections policies and procedures in making decisions, while independent judgment in performing the duties of the position.

- Implement basic cost containment and utilization management for patient care and facility operations.

- Maintain security and confidentiality of all patients’ medical records; observe applicable HIPAA rules

- Closely monitor all potential catastrophic illnesses.

- Serves in rotation with other medical staff to provide after-hours and weekend care, to include accepting on-call rotation.

- Regular and predictable onsite attendance is required.

- Comply with all applicable pharmacy regulations, especially those covering controlled substances.

- Assist corporate counsel with responses to inmate lawsuits.

- Facilitate, where applicable, NCCHC/ACA accreditation of the medical and mental health programs by providing the required level of efficiency and approved appropriate medical and mental health services.

- Perform rescue functions at accidents, emergencies and disasters to include administering basic emergency medical aid, physically removing people away from dangerous situations, and securing and evacuating people from confined areas.

- Maintain equipment and supplies.

- Promote the development of positive social skills among inmates through modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening when inappropriate behaviors are observed.

- It is expected that the incumbent shall perform other duties as assigned within his/her capabilities as determined by management.

Education and Education and Experience Requirements: What you will need

- Completion of an accredited physician’s assistant program, current license or completion of an accredited Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) program,

- Current unrestricted license, certification as an PMHNP

- Basic Life Support (BLS)

- US Citizenship or Lawful US Permanent Resident is required.

- DEA if applicable.

- Two to five years’ experience, preferably in the correction, detention, or emergency medicine environment highly desired.

- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record required, unless waived by management.
