Do Work That Matters

Every safe classroom, ready playground, and road-ready vehicle supports a child’s day. At Sunshine Schools NC, you will take ownership of the practical work that keeps our centers safe, welcoming, compliant, and running well.

This hands-on role combines facility maintenance with coordination of preventive maintenance and safety checks for company vehicles. You will work with approved vendors to schedule service and repairs; you are not expected to perform automotive repairs yourself.

What You’ll Own

- Perform general maintenance and minor repairs in classrooms, common areas, playgrounds, and outdoor spaces.

- Complete routine facility inspections and address safety, maintenance, and licensing-readiness issues before they become larger problems.

- Maintain clean, organized, hazard-free environments that support state and local childcare licensing requirements.

- Support readiness for fire, health, licensing, and other facility inspections.

- Coordinate preventive maintenance and required service for company vehicles, including oil changes, inspections, tire service, and approved repairs.

- Conduct and document routine vehicle-safety checks, including tire tread, visible condition, and other concerns affecting safe child transportation.

- Promptly report and coordinate resolution of vehicle issues so buses and other transportation vehicles are safe, compliant, and ready for service.

- Maintain organized facility and vehicle service records.

- Respond to urgent maintenance or transportation-safety needs after hours and on weekends when needed.

- Travel between New Bern and Morehead City locations as assigned.

What You Bring

- Experience in general maintenance, handyman work, building upkeep, or facilities support.

- Working knowledge of basic facility systems, including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, and minor repairs.

- A safety-first mindset, strong attention to detail, and the ability to identify and communicate issues promptly.

- Ability to work independently, prioritize work orders, and coordinate with vendors.

- Reliable transportation for travel between assigned locations.

- Reliable weekend availability and flexibility for occasional after-hours response.

Required for Employment

- Ability to pass the NC DCDEE childcare background check.

- Completion of required medical screening and TB test.

- Authorization to work in the United States.

Preferred

- Experience in childcare, schools, transportation, or another regulated environment.

- Familiarity with vehicle-safety inspections, preventive-maintenance coordination, or transportation compliance.

Why This May Be the Right Fit

- Meaningful work that directly supports children’s safety and daily experience.

- A supportive team and stable, consistent work.

- A role where initiative, reliability, and problem-solving make a visible difference.
