General Summary: The main objective of the Barista role is to prepare high-quality handcrafted beverages, serve customers, and maintain a clean, welcoming environment in a timely fashion. The Barista acts as the primary representative of the coffee shop brand.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities - Essential Functions & Percent of Time

Beverage & Food Preparation

- Prepare espresso, coffee, tea, and specialty beverages according to standard recipes and customer customization.
- Focus on beverage presentation, item accuracy, correct milk texture, and optimal serving temperature.
- Handle food items and pastries adhering to safety and sanitation standards.

Customer Experience & Ordering

- Greet customers promptly, assist with menu navigation, and take orders accurately.
- Process payments efficiently using the Point of Sale (POS) system.
- Cater to customer preferences and maintain high customer satisfaction throughout the shift.

Organization & Cleanliness

- Maintain clean prep stations, espresso equipment, counters, and customer seating areas throughout the shift.
- Restock dairy, beans, syrups, cups, and paper supplies as needed.
- Prioritize tasks appropriately during high-volume peak hours.

Teamwork

- Assist other team members when necessary and request support during high-volume periods.
- Assist management in any way conducive to the efficient operation of the shop.

Communication

- Effectively communicate inventory shortages, equipment malfunction, or customer concerns to management in a timely manner.
- Know the schedule and check with management prior to leaving shift.

Job Specifications

- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred; no formal degree required.
- Applicable retail, customer service, or barista experience preferred.
- Must be able to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Capable of prolonged standing and walking continuously, frequent bending and reaching, and lifting up to 40 lbs.
- Adhere to all local Health Department guidelines, Food Safety Standards, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) programs.
