The Role:
The Asset Management and Sustainability area is responsible for the development of asset policies, strategies and plans to determine the significant investment required into Ireland’s infrastructure. The area drives investment and the Sustainability and Innovation agenda for the organisation and leads on environmental activities. The Asset Management function is responsible for strategic planning, prioritisation, and development of Uisce Éireann’s Capital Works pipeline. The function plays a key role in promoting collaboration and co-ordination of activities across the three asset functions as well as providing environmental assessment and management expertise across Uisce Éireann.
The Asset Strategy Team responsibility is to develop strategic plans for all water, wastewater and natural assets and to ensure the authorisation of the asset base. The scope of the team's responsibility covers 5 main areas: environmental strategy, water asset strategy, wastewater asset strategy, forward planning and planning strategy.
Reporting to the River Basin Management Plan (RBMP) Technical Lead in the Environmental Strategy team, the Environmental Coordinator is responsible for monitoring and reporting on Uisce Éireann’s work under the current Water Action Plan 2024, Ireland’s 3 rd cycle RBMP and the forthcoming 4 th cycle RBMP. The RBMP team works with stakeholders across the business to raise awareness of our requirements under the Water Action Plan 2024; contributes to the development of River Basin Management Plans; shares data with key external stakeholders to assist in Water Framework Directive (WFD) characterisation; and manages external reporting on our progress under actions in the Water Action Plan 2024.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Support Asset Strategy to ensure all plans, projects, and programmes are delivered in accordance with the relevant EU and National environmental legislation and all Uisce Éireann environmental policies and guidance;
- Support the Project Managers in Asset Management and Infrastructure Delivery to ensure all projects meet requirements under the Water Action Plan 2024;
- Efficiently track and manage asset and location data throughout the asset lifecycle;
- Support asset data quality assurance and updates;
- Assist in the setting of operational performance indicators relating to asset data / environmental data;
- Responsible for maintaining registers including the Significant Pressure Register and liaison with Asset Planning teams in Uisce Éireann regarding the gathering of data to provide to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as they continue their work on Characterisation;
- Input into the management and updating of Uisce Éireann’s Sectoral Action Work Plans and Catchment Management Work Plans;
- Provide timely and accurate responses to internal and external queries regarding Uisce Éireann’s obligations under the Water Action Plan 2024;
- Partake in desk studies of in-stream structures to prioritise barriers for removal under our Fish Pass Programme;
- Responsible for managing data sharing with external stakeholders including the River Basin Management Service (formerly LAWPRO);
- Supported by the line manager, attend meetings with external stakeholders relating to the Water Action Plan 2024 and future River Basin Management Plans, including the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage (DHLGH);
- Follow trends and key data statistics related to water supply, wastewater treatment and catchment science to support decision making;
- Proactively solve asset problems related to wastewater and drinking water based on intelligence gathered from both internal and external systems;
- Contribute to achieving the objectives and targets of the Asset Management Business plans;
- Raise risks and issues as appropriate;
- Co-ordinate tasks, such as the Blue Dot Awareness Raising Field Trip and schedules as appropriate;
- Support ongoing projects as required;
- Follow best practices in catchment science to remain up to date;
- Perform other such duties in relation to work and asset management as Uisce Éireann may reasonably require.
General Duties and Responsibilities
- Collaboration with key internal stakeholders across the UÉ business.
- Responsible for promoting and delivering health and safety commitments across UÉ and its supply chain, reinforcing positive behaviours and delivering health and safety objectives and requirements to the highest industry standards.
- Support the delivery of the Uisce Éireann Transformation Programme, driving results required within the Directorate and supporting organisation-wide objectives.
- Conducts duties and responsibilities in accordance with Uisce Éireann’s Information Security policies, standards, processes and controls to protect the confidentiality, integrity and availability of UÉ business information and delivery of critical services, in accordance with relevant cybersecurity regulation.
- Other duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
- Relevant third level qualification, accreditation or experience is desirable.
- A minimum of 1 year experience in the water, utilities or similar industries is desirable but not essential.
- Knowledge of catchment science, wastewater, water supply or environmental issues.
- Ability to analyse customer needs and provide support to resolve water/wastewater/catchment science issues.
- Proven ability to work on own initiative and with others to promote the success in the performance of the environmental team.
- Proven effective time management skills with the ability to prioritise and remain focused.
- Strong computer skills with proficiency and working knowledge of Outlook, MS Word, Excel, SharePoint, Power BI and Geographical Information Systems (GIS).
- Ability to create and develop good working relationships to facilitate the accomplishment of work goals, coupled with the ability to gain commitment from others.
- Flexibility with regard to working in a changing environment and the ability to adjust to new work structures, processes and requirements as necessary.
- Track record of striving for quality and ensuring consistently high standards of work.
- Track record of complying with safety objectives and policies and encouraging others to do the same.
