Role Synopsis:
The Product Designer will design user-centric product experiences under the guidance of a senior designer or manager.
The role is hands-on, curious, proactive and focused on learning, bringing polished interfaces to life using the bp Design
System and the fundamentals of good UI and UX design.
Key Accountabilities:
- Deliver high-quality UI designs for features and small components, incorporating regular feedback from senior designers.
- Apply bp Design System components and tokens consistently, and contribute small improvements and supporting documentation where appropriate.
- Translate requirements into low- to mid-fidelity prototypes and iterate quickly based on feedback.
- Partner with product and engineering colleagues to clarify requirements, edge cases and acceptance criteria.
- Conduct basic comparative reviews of competitor products and capture gaps and opportunities.
- Support usability testing, including script preparation, note-taking and analysis, and incorporate findings into designs.
- Apply accessibility fundamentals, including contrast, keyboard navigation and labels.
- Maintain organised files, versioning and design specifications in Figma to support a smooth handover.
- Document decisions, assumptions and open questions to provide stakeholder clarity.
Essential Experience and Job Requirements:
- 3 years of product design experience, relevant internship experience, or both; a portfolio is required.
- Proficiency in Figma and related AI-enhanced design tools, with confidence in design documentation.
- Foundational understanding of design systems, including the correct use of components, spacing and typographic scales.
- Ability to create clean layouts and interaction designs with clear hierarchy, polish and consistency.
- Familiarity with accessibility guidelines, including WCAG fundamentals, and usability heuristics.
- Understanding of the product area, users and common industry interaction patterns.
- Openness to feedback and the ability to communicate trade-offs, questions and implications clearly.
- Relevant product design education or equivalent practical experience, supported by a portfolio.
Desirable criteria:
- Experience contributing to design system improvements or documentation.
- Exposure to usability testing, competitor reviews and cross-functional collaboration with product and engineering teams.
- Familiarity with AI-enhanced design workflows and tools.
