Purpose of the role

To design, develop and improve software, utilising various engineering methodologies, that provides business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues.

Accountabilities

- Development and delivery of high-quality software solutions by using industry aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools. Ensuring that code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.
- Cross-functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
- Collaboration with peers, participate in code reviews, and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
- Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contribute to the organization’s technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
- Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.
- Implementation of effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.

Join us as a Senior Software Engineer – UI Platform Lead in the cross Barclays Digital Platform (XDP) engineering team, which builds the shared technology layer behind Barclays digital experiences.

We are building a UI platform that is AI-native by design, where components, tokens, and patterns are delivered through tooling and APIs, not just code. This role leads the team shaping how digital experiences are built and delivered across Barclays.

To be successful as a Senior Software Engineer – UI Platform Lead, you must have the following essential skills;

- React and TypeScript in a library or platform context (not just application code
- Design token architectures (DTCG, Style Dictionary, or similar) and the tooling that transforms tokens across platforms
- Building integrations between a platform and external tools (design tools, code editors, CI pipelines
- Java and Spring for API services, or Node.js for tooling and build pipelines
- Experience with generative or AI-assisted developer tools, whether building them or integrating them into a platform

Some other highly valued skills may include;

- Infrastructure-as-code, Kubernetes, or CI/CD pipeline design for platform service
- Building or running registries, artefact distribution, or developer tooling platforms
- Familiarity with how mobile and native teams consume shared UI artefacts, and the constraints that come with supporting multiple platforms
- JSON Schema, OpenAPI, or contract-first API design
- Contributions to open-source projects, design systems, or technical standards
