This job description applies to all Field Service Engineer career levels, FSE I through FSE IV. Candidates are placed at the appropriate level based on a combination of relevant experience, demonstrated technical skill and proficiency, equipment and modality specialization, certifications and training, troubleshooting capabilities, and overall scope of expertise. Individual level and title will be determined based on the candidates qualifications and the needs of the organization.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Field Service Engineer is responsible for the installation, integration, calibration, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and performance optimization of advanced diagnostic and molecular imaging equipment, including PET, PET/CT, CT, SPECT, and SPECT/CT systems from a variety of manufacturers. The FSE applied knowledge of electronics, mechanics, instrumentation, computer systems, software, optics, control systems, and imaging technology to diagnose equipment issues, develop technical solutions, and ensure systems operate safely, accurately, and in accordance with manufacturer, company, and regulatory standards. Field Service Engineer serves as a technical resource to customers, providing responsive service and developing strong customer relationships to support customer satisfaction, contract stability, and continued business success.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each of the following essential functions satisfactorily.
- Install, service, maintain, calibrate, troubleshoot, modify, upgrade, and repair diagnostic and molecular imaging equipment at customer locations, including PET, PET/CT, CT, SPECT, and SPECT/CT systems.
- Perform system installations and integrations using technical expertise and independent judgment to ensure equipment is properly configured for the customers clinical and technical environment.
- Diagnose and resolve equipment failures by evaluating electronic, mechanical, software, networking, control, and imaging-system components; determine root cause, implement corrective action, and verify system performance following repair.
- Perform preventive maintenance, testing, validation, refurbishment, and system modifications in accordance with manufacturer specifications and company standards.
- Evaluate system performance and troubleshoot components and subsystems, including circuit boards, microprocessors, power systems, sensors, detectors, motors, gantry components, patient tables, and related equipment.
- Analyze system data and performance trends to identify technical issues and optimize equipment reliability, safety, and image quality.
- Provide technical consultation, support, and training to customers regarding equipment operation, system performance, software functionality, maintenance requirements, and technical concerns.
- Respond to customer service needs promptly and provide on-site support consistent with contractual requirements and customer expectations.
- Maintain regular communication with customers to assess satisfaction, address unresolved concerns, and support strong customer relationships.
- Communicate effectively with customers, team members, leadership, technical support, and other internal departments; share relevant customer feedback, competitive information, equipment opportunities, and potential sales leads as appropriate.
- Independently manage, prioritize, and schedule assigned service activities to meet customer needs, internal requirements, and contractual response commitments.
- Accurately document service activity, including equipment condition, troubleshooting performed, repairs completed, parts used or recommended, modifications, technical findings, and required follow-up.
- Ensure all service activities comply with applicable FDA, ISO, radiation safety, manufacturer, Quality Management System (QMS), Quality Management Procedures (QMI), Work Instructions (WI), and other company or regulatory requirements.
- Complete and maintain required technical, OEM, safety, and compliance training and certifications for supported systems.
- Maintain assigned tools, test equipment, documentation, parts, and other resources necessary to perform field service responsibilities.
- Maintain established performance standards and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
- Remain current on imaging technology, electronics, software, system architecture, equipment upgrades, and company products and services through ongoing technical education and training.
- Provide technical assistance and knowledge-sharing to other Field Service Engineers and internal teams as appropriate.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications :
- Associate degree in Electronics, Biomedical Equipment Technology, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline OR equivalent military training (BMET Program)
- 2+ years of experience servicing diagnostic or molecular imaging equipment
- Demonstrated knowledge of electronics, electrical systems, mechanical systems, computer hardware/software, networking, instrumentation, and diagnostic troubleshooting.
- Ability to read and interpret technical documentation, schematics, diagrams, service manuals, specifications, and system data.
- Valid Drivers License
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Equipment Technology, or a related discipline
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to lift/push/pull up to 75 pounds
- Ability to stand, bend, kneel, crouch, and work in and around large imaging equipment in confined spaces
- 40% standing, 20% walking, 40% sitting
Working Conditions:
- Work is performed at hospitals, clinics, imaging centers, and physician offices. Work may also be performed at a home office.
- Up to 75% travel may be required in varying weather and driving conditions. Travel may be extensive and include overnights depending on customer needs.
Occupational Exposure:
Work involves exposure to potentially dangerous and hazardous materials. Work involves moderate exposure to unusual elements such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, odors, loud noises, and confined spaces.
