Qualifications
Position Summary : This position requires providing conceptual and detailed design of mechanical/piping systems & components used during project execution of industrial plant design.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Mechanical 3D Designer does not have direct supervisory responsibilities.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Work with Leadership, Senior Engineers, Engineers, and Senior Designers assigned to lead project work.
- Perform computer aided drafting necessary to create mechanical drawings for the basic and detailed engineering of a Midrex plant, especially to create and support the 3D CAD models used to design Midrex plants.
- Be proficient in the use of computer aided drafting and design software such as AutoCAD, Inventor, Aveva E3D and related Autodesk products.
- Take and/or prepare conceptual designs, sketches, and ideas from Engineer’s and Senior Designer’s requirements to develop the details necessary for a complete, engineered drawing capable of being used for purchasing, erection in the field, design analysis, etc.
- Layout of plant equipment, piping, and utility systems in 3D model of plant.
- Perform checking of mechanical drawings for consistency with conceptual ideas, design, sketches, applicable standards, etc.
- Travel to job sites to perform analyses of existing structures, equipment, piping routes, layouts, etc. for use in developing future plans, proposals, etc.
- Travel on business trips and/or field assignments as required to carry out departmental tasks and functions.
- Assist Senior Designers and Engineers by suggesting design changes that might improve the desired results of the design.
- Work as a teammate with all company departments and employees in all assignments. Work toward building consensus on all assignments by finding solutions which meet the best interests of all parties involved.
- Provide support to the Sales and Estimating groups in preparation of proposals, including bulk-material estimates developed from existing models and databases.
Skills/Abilities:
Required:
- Advanced 3D computer modeling skills including use of Aveva E3D and PDMS products (or equivalent).
- Advanced computer skills including use of Microsoft and Autodesk products.
- Proficient Microsoft Excel skills including pivot tables and developing lists for engineering.
- Excellent technical writing and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to meet schedule and deliverable deadlines.
Preferred:
- International travel experience.
- Industrial plant experience.
- AutoCAD Inventor experience.
- Database management of engineering and/or modeling data.
Education and Experience:
- Associate Degree in civil and/or mechanical discipline.
- A minimum of four (4) years of hands-on experience in a technical environment.
Travel Requirements:
- Up to 10% International and Domestic based upon project demands.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Ability to move around a project site, including climbing structures.
